Aries might seem intimidating at first, but genuinely he’s the sweetest guy. Not overbearingly so, he’s good at understanding people and meeting them where they are. Tries to be a friend to all, from the elderly to children to the prickly. He’s boisterous and a little rowdy, but not stupid or naive. Works hard but a little single-mindedly towards whatever he puts his mind to. He knows how to fight if he has to… but how much of a dick do you have to be to provoke this sweetheart? This is the friend you call to help you move. Though, there are some people even he doesn’t like- many of his friends are what would be considered lowlifes of society, and he can even get along with people who are just plain mean, but Aries is cold towards those who intentionally harm or delight in the suffering of others.
He had a rather rough upbringing, but keeps it to himself unless it helps him relate to someone else’s struggles. Although, if you pay attention to his habits, it clearly involved not having enough money, or perhaps food and shelter. Has a bad habit of not letting people help him the way he does for others. For him, the response to what he experienced was wanting as few people as possible to have to go through similar things.
These days he works on a farm, and lives in a small cabin on the property. He's lost a few fingers in farm equipment accidents. He's also become quite good at living off the land; hunting, fishing, and gardening for food or D.I.Y.ing most of his furniture. He also does a lot of volunteering around his community. These pretty much double as his hobbies, since he works so hard. Sometimes he can feel distressed, knowing that there's so many people he can't do anything for- but never lets it make him give up, believing the work he does means something to those it does reach.
The truth is that Aries grew up homeless, along with his dad. Desperate to at least put a roof over his kid's head, his father would rush into any sort of romantic arrangement that would give them a place to stay, almost always abusive and toxic. Although Aries was shielded from most of it, he saw it all happen to his dad right in front of his eyes, and eventually watched it wear him into the grave. Aries would try to protect his dad too once he was big enough, but it didn't usually end well. He wasn't able to make it to school often, but after his dad died Aries left school entirely and started working under the table around age 14- being exploited, of course. He had some friends with parents willing to host him for a while, but not forever. He would follow in his father's footsteps, getting involved in some really shitty situations and very low points himself before he eventually found his job at the farm. Although doing better these days, his mental health is still not everything that he pretends it is.
Perhaps hidden deep down, Aries believes that after being shaped by such terrible circumstances, it's too late for him to live a truly normal or happy life. At least by devoting himself to others instead, he can help them avoid the same fate.
He is, in fact, an aries. Likes to change up his look seasonally, specifically his hair. Aries likes makeup and accessories, but doesn’t usually wear feminine clothes, they’re just not as comfortable or practical for his lifestyle. He’s definitely that guy wearing shorts during winter and going “it’s not even that cold.” Though he'll still be sympathetic if others are cold.
He’s not a furry but one of his friends drew him a fursona once and he thought it was cool, he will show you if it comes up (it was probably a generic purple wolf tbh). Aries has also expressed a desire to make either jewelry or prosthetic fingers out of his own amputated finger bones, if only he could find where they ended up.
While Aries is a regular human -though there's some unclear ancestry- there are fantastical elements to his world, which he's very chill with. In fact, Aries hopes to become a monster farmer someday.
