Profile
Put Batman and Superman in a blender and you have Amal Khalaf, who is sad, tormented, obsessed with some idea of justice in the world, and also a journalist with little talent. No, really, the similarities are striking. Tragic, tortured soul who acts all aloof from society and humanity but also wants to save it, but also doesn't know if it's possible? Absolutely hysterical. They've moved around a lot in the US within the past several years, and pretty much immediately get in with the locals and report on injustices and call for reforms. Which is all dandy, but hilariously optimistic considering that very few of the injustices are actually followed up on after they leave. Such is how it is in the world, buddy.
When nuclear testing occurs at a specific site, local governments will often construct jagged, unfriendly spikes and patterns to convey to future visitors, no matter what language they speak, to stay away unless they'd like to get hurt. Emotionally, Amal conducts themself as the equivalent of hostile architecture - they've experienced a lot of tragedy, and though they desperately want to avoid it happening to anyone else, they've accepted that the world is full of sadness. Despite this, they're waiting for someone to prove their faith in the world, and… honestly, even though they've been through terrible tragedy, they're also a giant teenage dork, and a lot less hostile as they are simply jaded.
Amal uses he/they pronouns, with a preference towards they. I personally use they/them all the time, but as far as I can tell they don’t mind switching or using the same sets, either way.
