About
Past
Valentine's past differs from AU to AU. For the most part, however, it tends to stay the same. He was raised in the attic of a tiny little home with his two brothers (the three of them are triplets), Hunter and Axel. He was never very close to either of them and distanced himself even more around the age of 12, when Hunter began to sexually assault him. He never brought this up to Axel and kept it a secret, even as it continued to happen. As he grew he became addicted to drugs (pills, and/or cocaine depending on the AU) and spiraled into silent depression
Library
After meeting his husband, Jona Rushford, Valentine changed considerably. Jona had inheritied a lot of money from his father and didn't know what to do with it, which is where Valentine came in. With those funds, he created a massive Library and added on things like a soup kitchen, a homeless shelter, and eventually housing. The 'Library' eventually became it's own little community, where addicts/abuse victims can come and get themselves back on their feet. No one who comes to the Library is ever charged and both he and Jona do their best to make sure everyone is taken care of.
Relationships
Jona Rushford [ Husband ]
Jona was raised by a literal Germany-dwelling Nazi, and was forced to go to meetings as a child. When he was a teenager he ran away, moving to America so that he could stay far away from his past. He learned English with the help of gangster movies, giving him a rather adorable accent. Jona is rather incapable of recognizing Valentine's flaws - or at least, if he does recognize them, he ignores that they exist. In return, Valentine does the same toward him.
Axel Mendel [ Brother ]
Axel is the youngest of the three triplets. When they were young, Valentine was forced to watch while their father would sexually abuse Axel in the bed right next to his, while Hunter slept downstars in his own room. In their childhood, Valentine was very close with Axel and protected him as much as possible... but when Hunter began to abuse Valentine, Valentine cut himself off from Axel, because he didn't want Axel to learn the truth. Axel then became closer with Hunter, as the two of them are technically identical (while Val is not).
Hunter Mendel [Brother ]
Hunter has been obsessed with Valentine from a very young age. He's always considered Valentine to be 'perfect', in the sense that he was able to 'own' and control him for a good portion of their young life. He's a psychopath and is very good at manipulating people, making him seem like a friendly, harmless person. He's also incredibly intelligent, and created/owns a tec company akin to Apple (called V-TeK). He was able to fool Axel into thinking Valentine didn't care about him for a long time.
