Evangeline spends her days typically locked away in her study; pouring over her many books or writing letters to the various scientists she sponsors. She is only interrupted by her servants delivering her meals or by Maxie coming to visit her - often opting to use her study window rather than the front door. On the rare occasion she leaves the estate, it is usually only to bail Maxie out of jail again. Books are delivered to the estate on a regular basis. Those that Evangeline cannot obtain through the usual channels, she will ask Maxie to 'keep an eye out for'. She'll typically have that book on her desk within the week.

With her confidence growing and a beautiful, rare Rainbow Kamishiba on her arm, Evangeline is slowly returning to high society. Invitations that once went ignored are now being answered. Evangeline never liked the social events of the elite but Maxie was obsessed by the glitz and glamour so Evangeline was willing to swallow her discomfort - for a favour in return of course.

The Byron Family was once a powerful and well known family; famed for their philanthropy and beauty. The brightly coloured family were shocked to their cores when the youngest daughter was born lacking the families most distinct feature; their colours. Evangeline Lanira Byron was born without a spec of colour on her coat and eyes as red as rubies. But instead of viewing her with disgust, as many families who value their beauty, her parents were concerned. The family doctor was called in and the cause for her strange lack of pigment was revealed; albinism. The condition had never been observed in the family before and they were not prepared.

But her family was willing to put in the effort for her. None more so than her elder sister. Where her parents focused on her physical comfort with her sensitivities, her sister put the effort into her mental and emotional comfort. Sticking out as much as she does with her snow white pelt, Evangeline was an easy target for bullying even at the expensive private school she and her sister attended. It was her sister who chased away those bullies, helped report their actions, and when it was all over, held her as she cried. Her elder sister was her best friend, her mentor, her rock, all in one package. As she transitioned from child to teen, she only grew closer with her sister.

Everything was looking good for Evangeline when one day tragedy struck. Evangeline's older sister simply disappeared. As she was travelling from the home of a family friend she never made it home. Evangeline's comfortable life was shattered. Almost instantly she withdrew from her family. She would spend every waking hour staring out of the large bay window that overlooked the path up to the mansion. She would eat food given to her without enthusiasm. She would only leave to return to bed after it became too dark to see the path. Things only got worse. While Evangeline was silent and depriving herself of sleep, her father had been killed on his way to visit the very same family friend. Broken hearted, her mother passed away. Evangeline was left all alone.

Years passed and Evangeline moved her position from the window to her father's study - now hers. Window watching became hours of carefully reading each and every book in the study. One by one the staff left, leaving only a few loyal and determined souls to maintain the mansion. The grounds have fallen into chaos with grass, ivy, and trees growing freely. Rumours began to circulate around the sole survivor of the Byron family as her estate fell into disarray. That she had killed her family. That an assassin had killed them all. That Evangeline was a vampire of all things, not helped by her apparently nocturnal and solitary lifestyle. These rumours however, were not enough to dissuade a particular thief. Maxie broke into the mansion, thinking it to be easy pickings, and ended up with something much better than gold and silver.
