Personality

Observant, Determined, Prudent

She likes to watch things very closely, mostly so that she can understand all the details but also help reassure herself. Flowerpool doesn’t enjoy feeling out of her depth, so she will usually stay in the shadows for a little while until she begins to feel like her understanding has increased. Most of the time, she enjoys ‘cat watching’ and seeing how a clanmate’s life is unique to her own and others. Having a higher chance of catching sickness has meant she can’t be as involved as she’d like to, but she’s found some comfort in observing her clanmates. Due to this comfort of observation, when she does get a chance to interact with others, she usually feels pretty close to them emotionally — though she keeps such thoughts to herself, not wanting to ‘scare away’ any chances she does get at participating in normal activities.

Due to Flowerpool having to sit back and recover from sickness every so often, she has gained a knack for a strong sense of determination. She enjoys being caught in her own thoughts a lot, often daydreaming up a whole load of adventures that she wishes she could go on. While she would adore being able to do all the amazing things she thinks up, she can be a bit of a pessimist in regard to her own abilities, though that doesn’t stop her from trying to believe in herself. Flowerpool doesn’t have any huge ambition, feeling way too shy to ever dream about acquiring a higher part in the Clan, but she does want to make both her family and herself proud. She looks up to the more boisterous pieces of her relatives and tries to take a leaf out of their book.

As mentioned previously, the apprentice likes to do a lot of thinking — most of it revolves around the future or how the future will be affected. She is very aware of her own capabilities (to a very harsh extent, in reality), and she knows that her penchant for sickness may affect her for a large chunk of her life, if not all of it. Flowerpool tries to stay aware of how her actions may affect the future and also likes to base her decisions directly on how they will affect her or anyone else in the time to come. Keeping her mindset directed like this also enables her to stay somewhat ambitious, despite her many doubts surrounding her capability. Looking forward all the time allows her to stay determined to someday improve the flaws she believes she must work on the most.

Moody, Realistic, Reticent

Being stuck in the medicine cat den or the nursery for a while produced a general gloomy aura around Flowerpool, who usually felt left out of activities during her early development. Sometimes her frustrations can get a bit too much for her, and she doesn’t really know how to properly deal with her inner turmoil, usually sitting and sulking if she can’t think of any other solution. To many others, the image of her sitting in the distance with a glum expression on her face certainly hasn’t done her any favours, though she really does enjoy other activities that allow her to spend time with her family and friends. When she’s overcome with bouts of sickness (usually after trying to play or overly exerting herself in general), she will become really embarrassed and try to guard her shame with a different feeling or expression, usually sullenness.

She likes to pride herself on knowing what she is and isn’t able to do. While she may have some moments where she’s unnecessarily harsh on herself, for the most part she manages to remain realistic and only push herself the appropriate amount. This value for realism also stresses the importance to look after herself, which is why she usually keeps inside and away from any possible interactions that may cause her to become too sick. While she may feel frustration and not being able to put her full energy into playing or ‘living normally’, she is aware of how essential such things are, and would much rather follow them to dissipate any energy that her parents may spend worrying about her wellbeing.

Very likely due to her shy nature, Flowerpool doesn’t let out her thoughts or feelings very openly, unless it’s with those she feels especially close with. She likes to keep those things to herself, both out of a wish not to say the wrong thing but also because it makes her feel a lot safer and more comfortable. Being able to keep things like that within herself is perhaps a way for her to gain some control over timidity, because she can choose to hold such details, unlike how she can’t control how strongly her shyness can affect her. Flowerpool’s very worst feelings are shame and embarrassment, so to protect herself from ever having to feel those more than necessary, she usually just avoids voicing them aloud.

Shy, Pedantic, Envious

Flowerpool can often be described as a completely different apprentice with her family and with others. Though not ccompletely true, she does present herself more confidently around the ones that she’s grown up with, yet can still become extremely timid quite sporadically. The apprentice finds it hard to say things, even if they’re right on the tip of her tongue. This is most likely because she always keeps to herself and stays within the confines of the nursery due to the risk of sickness, though you’d think being surrounded by five other apprentices would’ve helped her come out of her shell a bit more. In fact, when she’s around her littermates, she manages to find her voice a lot easier, especially around the likes of Lakedancer and Nestlepond.

Such risks of sickness have taken over many of her thought processes, especially the ones where it comes to keeping herself safe and healthy. Due to this, Flowerpool has become a little obsessive over very minor details and especially focuses on rules and not breaking them. This doesn’t mean that she’ll be the first to run and tell an adult if someone is being rebellious, but she’ll certainly be the first the remove herself from that situation and return back to a safe place. She knows exactly how important it is to listen to your higher ups (principally because she’s had to listen to their advice while recovering), and just doesn’t see any logic or benefit in dissent.

It’s all fine and dandy remaining obedient and realistic a lot of the time, but that doesn’t stop her from feeling envious over how much freedom her other littermates seem to have. She knows that nothing is stopping her from living the same life as them, but the deep fear of becoming so sick that she’ll be unable to recover causes her to feel limited and trapped. Flowerpool really despises how she gets jealous as it feels so ugly and twisted — her determination to become better and overcome her flaws stems from her envy, because she one day hopes that she outgrows such emotions. She absolutely adores the life she has and is grateful to her family for showing her love and care, but she just can’t help but wish she’d been born bigger and stronger, that they weren’t all so outspoken that she felt like the odd one out. Flowerpool feels very ashamed about these feelings, and will try and push them down and ignore them whenever they flare up.

History

before birth

Leafpelt and Timberfoot have been friends from a very young age, but their friendship really blossomed after Leafkit claimed Timberkit as one of her ‘Leaf pals’. Perhaps Timberfoot had always had a special place tucked away in his heart just for Leafpelt, though the molly wouldn’t return such feelings until they were much older.

It wasn’t until the two were apprentices that even a hint of such emotions would show themselves: as Leafpaw fell out with one of her best friends, it was Timberpaw that she turned to for comfort. Inevitably, Timberpaw’s feelings only grew stronger, while Leafpaw’s was perhaps too deep in mourning to think about such things. However, after some time had passed, the tom was determined to finally tell her how he felt about her… though not right away.

More disaster struck for Leafpelt as she lost another one of her closest friends, though this time more permanently. The flood that had ravaged the Clan’s camp had also ravaged her heart. It wasn’t until Timberfoot confessed his feelings that she realised he’d always been there to support her, and had helped mend a broken heart on more than one occasion. Finally, the two became official.

It didn't take the couple long to have their first litter, with all of their offspring spare one reaching adulthood. Despite the loss of Riverpaw, Timberfoot brought forward the idea of them having a second litter. Feeling a little hesitant at first, Leafpelt agrees, and soon becomes pregnant. It becomes obvious fairly quickly that this litter would be even more numerous than the last, and the molly begins to understandably fret over which complications may lay in wait.

Throughout the pregnancy, Leafpelt's mood is all over the place. She's encouraged to relax, often spending her days relaxing by the nursery and having a good cuddle whenever Timberfoot can visit her between his duties. Once more, he shows himself to be ample support for her, and she clings to him for comfort, especially once famine hits the Clan. There is paranoia that she might not be able to properly sustain her kits, though all six are birthed successfully... though some feeling the consequences of the famine more than others.

kithood

Flowerkit was born into a large litter of six, alongside her littermates named Bushkit, Lakekit, Stumpkit, Fernkit and Nestlekit. Right from the moment she was born, it was obvious that she was a little different from the others. The molly had a tendency to become sick, and was soon encouraged to keep some distance from strangers in an effort to protect herself and others.

She didn’t really know exactly what made her sick, but she hoped that she would one day grow strong enough to overcome it. The sickness didn’t outrightly ruin her life or anything, and it usually crept up and became worse every so often, but it definitely made her a lot more cautious and guarded than she might’ve been without it.

The kit clings to her brother, Bushkit, a little more than the others as he seems to share similar difficulties to her when it comes to playing too much. From watching him closely, she notices that he begins to cough harshly if he runs around too much. She becomes worried for him, especially when she observes the few moments where it sounds like he grasping for breath desperately. Flowerkit’s eyes tend to follow him around a little more frequently than the others.

Overall, she’s a rather happy kit around her family, though tends to shrink into herself around strangers or if things become a little too... wild for her taste. She likes to watch others play more than to play herself (or, at least, that’s what she says). It's a rare sight to see her very far away from the nursery, and she often will stay in the company of her mother or Bushkit, feeling too wary to venture too far outside.

Relationships

Leafpelt
mother

She absolutely adores her mama! Flowerpaw feels like she's Leafpelt’s tiny twin, and will always keep her company in the nursery. She thinks that her fur is SUPER soft, and loves burying herself in its warmth. The leaves littered throughout it are a good bonus too, because they act a good substitute for actually going outside and playing in the leaves.

As she grows older, she’ll want to follow her mother everywhere, but will become overwhelmed with the many noises, sights and smells of the outside. Flowerpaw much prefers staying inside the nursery and listening to her mother tell stories of the past, or even tell her own made-up ones.

Timberfoot
father

Papa has all of the wonderful and great adventures to tell to Flowerpaw. While she adores listening to her mother’s, which are calming or sometimes even melancholic, Timberfoot tends to focus on the more outrageous ones. However, Flowerpaw’s absolute favourites are the ones he tells about Leafpelt herself, and the story of how they fell in love.

Sometimes Flowerpaw will scrunch up her nose as Timberfoot enters the nursery, because he is usually covered in smells and dirt from the outside. She doesn’t really understand why it bothers her so much, but she’ll often try not to touch the gross parts, still wanting to stay close to her father. She really loves looking at the flowers he brings her mother — they make her feel really special, because she was partly named after them!

Bushpaw
Littermate

Subject to change depending on tryout winner!

Out of all her littermates, probably the one she feels closest to. Despite this, she’s very envious of his confident and outgoing nature, sometimes feeling like he’s leaving her behind. It feels like he’s making way more progress than her, and Flowerpaw is often left wondering if she’ll always be the last one to leave the nest.

However, she also does use his confidence to her own advantage, basically using him as a social shield to hide behind whenever things get a little too much. She can always count on him to be the first cat to introduce himself, and is thankful that he brings her along for the ride.

Lakepaw
Littermate

Subject to change depending on tryout winner!

Flowerpaw views her quite similarly to how she does Maplecall and Timberfoot: Lakepaw has that same adventurous flair as the others. She relates to Lakepaw’s feelings of self-consciousness, and tries her best to comfort her or be a comfort should she need it; she also really enjoys spending time with her when crafting up stories! Lakepaw seems to have a good flair for audacious plots, and Flowerpaw gobbles them right up.

Stumppaw
Littermate

The only similarity that her and Stumppaw seem to share is their small stature. Flowerpaw finds it a little difficult to be around Stumppaw when he’s feeling especially mischievous, becoming overwhelmed in what may result from such moments. His impatience clashes with her shyness, and she’ll often feel guilt whenever she gets upset because of it. Despite this, she loves him very much and hopes to become a little braver so she can join in one day.

Fernpaw
littermate

Subject to change depending on tryout winner!

Her littermate, Fernpaw, is usually very enjoyable to be around due to her playful nature. She reminds Flowerpaw not to take things so seriously all the time, and reminds her a lot of Maplecall in this regard. While her rowdiness can also spike the same feelings as some of Stumppaw’s traits, Flowerpaw is able to withstand her sister in more bursts. One thing she doesn’t enjoy about Fernpaw is just how much filth she seems to drag in after her many games.

Nestlepaw
Littermate

Out of all of her littermates, Nestlepaw is definitely the lowest energy — which in Flowerpaw’s opinion is a compliment! She really loves spending time with her sister, because Nestlepaw often drags her along to her excursions to visit the elders, a much easier task than some of the wild objectives her other siblings dream up. Nestlepaw likes the take her day one step at a time, and Flowerpaw appreciates this immensely. Her sister is definitely her rock, even if she might not realise it (because Flowerpaw is too overwhelmed with embarrassment to admit it).

Maplecall
older sibling

Her older sister is a force to be reckoned with. Flowerpaw loves it whenever Maplecall comes to visit, because it only makes her want to be like her all the better. She hopes that she can one day outgrow her shyness and be more like the older molly, who doesn’t seem to let anything get in her way.

Twigpurr
older sibling

Almost like the very opposite of Flowerpaw, Twigpurr seems to be surrounded by positive energy and optimism. The molly doesn’t really know how he keeps up with it, but she’s impressed nonetheless. She looks up to him and how he usually manages to stay upbeat, though is also grateful that he seems to have flaws, too. It makes her feel less ashamed about herself, even if he manages to sustain all the things she seems to fail at.

Cottonsprout
older sibling

In a very similar vein to Twigpurr, Flowerpaw looks up to Cottensprout for his friendly nature. Although she manages to connect with him a little more regarding his more reserved side, relating to feeling overwhelmed by such situations. Due to his open-mindedness, Cottensprout would be the most likely candidate for who Flowerpaw would go to for advice outside of her parents, should she ever need it.

Riverpaw
older sibling, deceased

All she knows about Riverpaw are the soft-spoken words surrounding her. Flowerpaw feels sympathetic towards her parents and older siblings, who all seem to miss her very much. She feels comfort that, one day, they shall all be reunited under Silverpelt. She likes to snuggle up to her parents whenever they speak about her, trying to perhaps fill the emptiness that may surround them whenever she’s discussed.
