Aquilo was born in Lacunosa, a sleepy town in northeastern Unova. As the story goes, the people who lived there centuries prior built the large latticed walls around the town to protect its residents. A monster would appear with gusts of cold wind, and spirit away people and pokemon in the night. Aquilo's always been fascinated by the legend - if not a bit resentful of the rigidity it imposed on him as a child. He no longer cares about the tradition of staying indoors at night, though, even if it might be for the better after all...

Despite never straying too far from his hometown, Aquilo took up cycling as a teenager and became good enough to race professionally by the time he graduated high school. He competed most often on teams based in Opelucid, since Lacunosa's sports scene tended to be lacking. Aquilo was considered nationally ranked by his mid-20s, but retired for reasons he wouldn't disclose to the press.

Nowadays, some would say he's more taciturn than he used to be... Regardless, he's shifted to working as a research assistant in Pokemon laboratories, with a particular focus on studying odd weather phenomena that may be caused by mythical Pokemon.

• His name means "north wind."
