She must have been around his age, maybe a year or two older, with dirty blonde hair to her jaw, cut in an awkward, jagged design, as if she’d sawed through it herself with a knife. Her face was strong and angular, and she had a scar on her chin. It was strange and pointed in its shape, as if she’d been struck with something long ago. Besides her pack, she had on a heavy leather coat and jeans, and a beanie pulled down over her ears. Her jackboots had been repaired with duct tape at some point, over the toe on the right one, around the heel on the left. Stooped as she was to enter the tent, it was hard to tell her height, but once she stepped inside it was clear that she was tall and lanky under the gear.
