Cash is a high schooler from a small town in Maine. He doesn't really seem to have much of a future -- barely showing up to his classes, much less passing them. He's smart, but doesn't seem to care. Nobody really knows who he is or where he is all the time -- except for when he's in the band room. His band family seems to be his one family, and he dedicates most of his time and effort to leading the drumline and percussion section. Other than that room, he seems to be cold to the world. That is, until he meets one Evan Evans in his physics class...

On the surface, there doesn't seem to be much to Cash. He's aloof, doesn't care about his future, and always seems mad at something. Something always seems to be weighing on him, and it's hard to even get him to notice you. He has a small group of friends, who don't seem to be the best of influences, judging by the amount of fights he gets into and injuries he sustains. Cash hates being pitied, though, and despite his obvious declining health due to substances and his lack of a fulfilling future, he refuses to change.

TW for parent death, substance abuse
A boy is born in Maine, to 2 unmarried parents who never got along. Nonetheless, Cash was a happy child, with a normal life. From a young age, he was known to be gifted -- Cash was very advanced compared to other kids his age. He was shy, and never made many friends, but he was a happy boy, with his 2 parents. No family is perfect, right?

One night, in the middle of winter before Cash's 10th birthday, 2 parents turned to 1. In a heated argument, Cash's mother lashed out on his father and it ended with his father being brought away with a hole in his head and his mother being behind bars.
But what to do with the child when the house is behind yellow tape?

As of his 10th birthday, Cash was put into the foster system. His steady life turned to one of uncertainty, the boy never unpacking his suitcase, never adjusting much. His grades slipped, the formerly gifted young child turning into a summer school local.
Cash fit into a new crowd, one that seldom came home without injury. With his new friends, he got hooked onto substances, his money from his gas station job dwindling, and a vicious cycle starting.

Cash's life in high school was a blur. After his failing grades freshman year, he was enrolled in an alternate school for a year. Through the fights and the failing grades, Cash never got to focus on just what his future might hold.
But eventually, his future would find him. One day in his physics class, he was assigned to be on a group project with Evan Evans, someone entirely the opposite of him. Somehow, the two became friends, with their shared interest in music. Slowly, Cash's brick walls started to crumble, with every touch of Evan's hand and heartbeat they shared.
