He absolutely is convinced that he loves Dimitri. He's the one who has shown him what love can feel like and he can't seem to be able to feel like this toward any other human. Rene won't let Dimitri think otherwise, prepared to show him that he indeed does love him in as many ways as he can find. He can only love him after all.

Although knowing Cain before, he didn't expect the fellow outer god to first show up as what humans consider to be a dog. Now he has a human form just like he does, although much younger in appearance. He's supposedly his uncle for now while staying together with Dimitri in their house.
