Leela is the adopted mother of Azar. She had to convince her band of thieves to accept him as a member of not just the group, but the family. As she's the second in command of the theives, her biggest hurdle to overcome in this task was to convince her husband, and leader of the troupe, to see the value of Azar as a member and friend.
