nous
she/they | dragon | ascended

Synchro's other half. While Synchro is tasked with cleaning up heaven's messes, Nous is in charge of creating more messes. She is constantly awake, but only active as a deity for a few days each year. They are undeniably powerful, but thanks to a battle they lost ages ago, they have very few chances to flex that power.

People say they are quite amusing and fun to be around, if a little bit intimidating. She tries her best to stay in people's good graces so that she won't be punished as harshly when they inevitably find out about all the problems she has caused.

Design

She blends into the night, although she wants to stand out. Her gait is lofty and carefree, and her smile is cruel.

Important Notes
  • You can either draw their old design (pictured above) or their newer one! Unless I specify, I don’t really care either way.
  • White irises, black pupils.
  • The inside of their cape and the white part of their hair have black star patterns on them. These patterns are optional!
  • Their leotard thing (on the old design) has faint white patterns on it! Again, optional, but they’re there if you want to draw them. They sparkle in the light.

BACKGROUND
the new moon’s gaze…
Story

Ages ago, there was a competition for the title of moon deity. There were already plenty of deities who called themselves “patrons of the moon,” but two in particular really wanted this ultimate title: Synchro and Nous, naturally. When they announced they would be battling for the title, most other deities assumed that if they won they would hold the title together, since they were so close. They were partly correct, however something happened before the two dueled that caused a rift of spite between them. Synchro won the fight, but Nous refused to give up and ended up bargaining with Synchro for partial control.

Whatever happened, it prevented Syn and Nous from being even in the same realm without making their vision go red with rage. Nous, the loser, was banished to the mortal realm for the days when she wasn’t in control of the moon deity title.

Out of spite, she tried to cut the sinews of heaven and collapse the entire realm. She failed miserably, but no one knew that she was the one behind it. In a sudden change of morals, Nous decided to focus on making Synchro’s life hell (instead of turning heaven into hell). That leads to the present day, where the hatred between these two deities has been festering for centuries and turned into a monster of its own.

Synchro/Nous

It’s impossible to mention Nous’s name without Synchro coming to mind, and the former is very spiteful about that. The way their strange duality works is that Synchro works as a deity every day except times when there is a new moon; during those times Nous will take charge. If Nous had won the battle that the two of them had ages ago, then that would be reversed, and Synchro would only be active on full moons.

Nous is convinced that she would be a better long-term deity than Synchro, and so on new moon nights she does her best to prove everyone of that… by causing mass destruction. Her intentions aren’t quite in the right place, and more often than not she ends up shortening the time she’s allowed in heaven. Whether or not she’d actually make a better deity is impossible to tell, since they only spend a little bit of time in heaven.

Combat

They fight with a weapon that can take two main forms. She uses both equally, since they both have different advantages in different situations.

The first (and more well-known) is a thin, white wheel/disc-like object that hovers behind her back. On its own it’s pretty useless, but it can summon a barrage of jet black bullet-like objects to attack her opponent with. She has little control over these “bullets”, but since there are always so many of them and they have such a great range, they focus more on flooding the area than trying to pinpoint exactly where their foe is.

The second (and arguably more difficult to use) is a strange mechanical gauntlet that is decorated with glowing dark veins. She uses this one in tighter situations, when flooding the room with bullets would hurt her more than her enemy. The gauntlet is incredibly heavy, but it can manipulate the air around it in a way that makes it feel lighter. Nous has gotten great at using it, but she still prefers her bullet halo.

enemy

Their former friendship means nothing to them today. Nous will mess with Synchro any chance she gets, even going so far as to use Synchro’s true name to ridicule her.
