Corrin

Corrin and her twin brother Alexander were born to a respectable pair of dragons nesting in a high clifftop cave. As they grew, Corrin and Alexander stayed close and spent long hours exploring their surrounding lands with their younger sister. Over time, they drifted apart and stopped speaking entirely after a nasty fight (instigated by him and surrounding his decision to associate with a cult) when they were both around 20. Upset with her brother and the way her parents refused to back her up, Corrin left the family home and flew south on a whim. She wandered through sparse dragon towns and villages for several weeks before reaching the country's uncrossable southern border, where she experienced literal divine intervention that allowed her to summit the mountain range commonly known as the Spine of the World. God explained that they had a greater purpose in letting her cross, but were vague about what it was.

Crossing this barrier brought her south to the kingdom of the Aurelians, a winged people who separated from dragons thousands of years ago after a long and pointless war. Dragons and Aurelians have a common human ancestor, but dragons originally believed they were gifted their draconic form by the goddess of the moon (this belief has fallen out of practice) and Aurelians believe their wings and magical abilities are a gift from the goddess of the sun (this belief persists). In reality, both were magical gifts from the same god in an attempt to appease both groups. This backfired and resulted in a war that the same god later stopped by erecting the Spine. The barrier between the two groups was insurmountable, with anyone who attempted to cross dying before reaching the summit or drowning in the ocean if trying to go by sea. Nearly two thousand years later, the High Kingdom of Aurelia believes dragons existed only in myth, and residents of the Dragonland have long since forgotten the identity of their old rivals, remembering them only as nebulous, unknown villains of legend. About a week into her planned undercover tour of Aurelia, Corrin was wandering through a strip of woodland that gave way to a large, flat floodplain when she was spotted, chased down, and tripped over by a beautiful girl (a common problem people have) who turned out to be the kingdom's sole heir to the throne- princess Amaia. Feeling bad for nearly concussing her, said princess invited her to come back to her castle with her, and they- both a little lonely, if we're being honest- quickly became friends and fell in love.

Over the course of the next two years, they would learn that the cult Alexander had joined was playing with infecting each other with a dangerous magical virus that resulted from overexposure to divine magic. They were planning to use this to finally cross the border themselves and wreak havoc on whatever lay beyond it. Corrin realized this following a particularly violent (for him) encounter with Alexander, and she and Amaia decided to publicize her real identity as a dragon in an attempt to inform the Aurelian public of this potential threat. It backfired and resulted in a high-profile trial that Corrin escaped from, only to be saved from whatever fate the country's court would sentence her to by a personal pardon from her girlfriend's mother (the High Queen of Aurelia in case you forgot). After a period of unease, reports of dragon sightings near the border got the rest of the government and most of the Aurelian public to at least accept her presence and begin to realize the severity of the threat. Further research into the disease suggested that it spread via direct contact with infected blood and the only way to kill an infected individual was to destroy its brain all at once. Corrin, Amaia, the queen, and the queen's spouse/head tactician/head historian Robin worked with numerous advanced spellcasters and researchers to develop a method of mounted magical combat that would enable the (hopefully) safe killing of an infected dragon, perhaps the first collaborative combat between dragons and Aurelians to ever exist. Within several months of their first border sighting, Alexander and the rest of his group managed to make it over the Spine and launched an attack that resulted in the destruction of quite a few buildings, a really big fire, but few Aurelian deaths. Alexander was killed along with every other infected dragon, bringing about peace that would culminate in the reopening of the border and the beginning of a new era marked by collaboration between the two long-separated cultures.
