Izumi Shimizu

• First concrete pokemon OC.
  • Izumi was first drafted in 2016. Unlike the other main ocs, his name uses Kanji and has little to do with flowers, herbs or spices. His surname (清水, Shimizu) was part of a common last names list. It means spring water. It was taken from another OC who was scrapped and given to him. His first name, (泉, Izumi) also means spring, and doubles as "fountain". His name was mainly in order to contrast the Kouseki (Gemstone) surname as well as separate him from Flare and Magma. Additionally, it was supposed to prove that he was flexible and level-headed, like water. In the end, his name doesn't mean much. But think of him as a springwater fountain if you want to! Like the famous Fountain of Youth, sought after by those who want to use him.
  • Izumi's blue hair was initially not going to have a reason behind it.
    • His blue hair was added while he was in development. A few years after, it was decided that his father and his twin would both have the "condition" where the indigo pigment in their hair would flake off if they were under heavy mental or physical stress.
    • His main colour was supposed to be purple. He is now either yellow, green or brown.
      • It's mostly a result of his deadname and a jacket that I took away from his design back almost a full year now. It would be nice to redraw him in it, it was a yellow jacket with a dark purple stripe to give homage to his first ever name in development "Violet".
