This character is a fan interpretation of the smiling TV character that appears during the ending scene of Chapter 2 of Deltarune.

Host is a darkner from The Cable, who due to their broken static-y screen, was outcasted by others like them and fell prey to Gaster's influence, losing their voice after a very traumatic event.

They host a TV show along with their partner Mike, seeking to help other darkners down on their luck and helping them out of their situations.

Along with this, they are also Chapter 3's secret boss, taking the form of Omega Host.

Backstory

Host was a broken TV who was an outcast and became targetted by Gaster who intended to use their TV powers in order to contact other dark worlds and manipulate the darkners that lived in them.

However, forcing Host to channel these powers went horribly wrong when the TV was suddenly overwhelmed by static and images from all the dark worlds, jumbled together in their mind and shattering their reality. This caused Host to release a scream so powerful it unleashed a shockwave in their surroundings and broke their voice, leaving them permanently mute.

This halted Gaster's plans to manipulate Host to talk to other worlds' darkners, and when he sent Host on their way home and they ran into a broken Mike who had been caught in the shockwave and was permanently paralyzed, he realized that maybe there was a way to make this plan work after all.

Trivia

Their name is a reference to not only the term "TV Host", but also Host/Parasite, which was the dynamic that them and Mike were initially concepted with. Host's real name is a pun on a similar level as "Mike" :) They both have real people names that just so happen to sound like objects relevant to them

Their design was based on the smilling TV from Chapter 2, their blue tone being colour picked from the sprite itself (Though later adjusted), but the colour bar smile was added while I was experimenting with colour schemes and I ended up liking it so much I decided to keep it. Host's secret boss form does have the uncoloured smile however.

Their body is inspired on a TV remote, and their armless design is intended to better emphasize their hands and sign language. Though this was before I realized that sign language DOES make use of the arms, oups!

Initially, Host wasn't actually intended to be a character separate from Mike, being actually a husk of a brainwashed TV Head that was controlled by Mike. Which circles back to the Host/Parasite dynamic

Host's backstory takes direct inspiration on Kurloz Makara from Homestuck

aesthetic
Design

Similarly to Mike, Host's mouth also does not close, though it can disappear completely for certain more dramatic expressions. This is purely stylistic however and you're not supposed to think about it

Volume buttons on their right side and channel changing buttons on the left

Button on bowtie has a power symbol on it ( )

The only "clothing" that Host wears is the bowtie, everything else is part of their body (Yes, even the "gloves" and tailcoat)

relationships
Mike Romantic Partner

Host's partner and best friend who they simply adore and would do anything for. They always look out for each other and are rarely to never seen apart.

They compliment each other in various ways, and without either of them realizing, Mike's just the right amount of loud to drown out the static that plagues Host's mind, helping them stay grounded in reality and becoming more assertive.

Spamton Likes/It's complicated

Much like Mike, Host was quick to become attached to the young defective Addison, familiar with his struggles with relating to others of his kind.

However, unlike Mike, Host's bond with Spamton ended up feeling one-sided due to their disability hindering their ability to communicate on the phone and getting to know the Addison better. They cared deeply for him, but were well aware that Spamton likely forgot they were there too.

Host still blames themselves for being the reason things turned so sour for him and hates how Mike just took that blow for them.

Perhaps they will be able to reconnect and talk about everything eventually.

Gaster Fear

Host is absolutely terrified of this mysterious lightner stuck between worlds. Sometimes he helps them, which leads Host to a false sense of security, other times, he terrifies them, making them want to recoil and run away from him.

Even after he mysteriously vanished when Mike cut off the connection with Spamton, Host still gets reoccuring nightmares that the mystery man will come back for them.

Host knows they'll relapse the moment he does.

Swatch Neutral/Like

Bonding over being non-binary shopkeepers. Despite never having spoken that much, Host likes Swatch and hopes they're treating Spamton well.
