Sylvie Laurent's Comments

Character is based in the world of Sunder.

Looking back, I have very fond memories of my childhood- ever since I can remember I’ve been surrounded by love. I have fond memories of my dad teaching me how to navigate the bridges and ropes throughout the treetops and how to avoid the traps that littered the forest floor. He always made it a point to answer any questions I have about the world that surrounds us, sparking my passion for plants at a young age. Although my mother was regularly busy with her duties, every night before I went to sleep she would brush my hair and tell me stories. Some of my favourite stories include those about her meeting dad on the day of his branding, their many adventures together, and even her rise to becoming an Ear of the Head. When some of the Watchers who worked closest underneath Mom would visit the Watchwoods, they’d bring me little trinkets from far away lands. Sometimes if I was extra lucky, they would even take the time to tell me stories about all the places they’ve been!

Once I got a bit older, Dad began taking me to Thikit, teaching me everything from how to imitate the Grayden’s accents, to how to steal without them noticing, and even how to efficiently use knives. For my 10th birthday Dad took me out on my first job, heading north to Stockton to deal with a small group of unseen watchers. After spending a few days watching them, we came up with the plan for me to act as a sort of bait to lure them into an area with less people. Luckily, the plan worked perfectly and between Dad and I we managed to take out all 3 of them!

Mom and Dad continued training me in the years following, making sure I had all the skills I needed to be successful once I was assigned my tasks. Finally, on my 16th birthday I was given the three items I needed to steal, and I was determined to get them all.

Once I was branded, Mom gave me a lot more freedom. I would regularly spend my time outside of the Watchwoods, venturing north to set up my own trade routes and connections. I quickly found that my knowledge of plants gave me the ability to gain trust by providing medicines and such to a variety of people. I found that helping people is a great way to get information from them, and would tell my mother everything I learned. I especially made a name for myself in Thikit, afterall who wouldn’t love Sylvie Laurent, the absentminded girl who just wants to help people.
