Selya Lustabar

BACKSTORY

Born the youngest of the Lustabar children, Selya grew up highly privileged and cared for. The Lustabars are a very old and illustrious house in a region populated by elves. They hold the title of Lord/Lady, and Selya's parents currently rule over the city-state their court resides in. The family legacy is known for their honor, wealth, strong courtly presence, and studiousness.

Selya grew up with the finest tutors money could hire. One of her favorites was her dance teacher, the sword dancer Sahar Kaurlel from the Emirates. Sahar was interesting and fun, and Sahar's daughter Datta was Selya's favorite playmate at court. It wasn't until selya was about 8 years old where she found out about the rumors of Datta's true parentage: Selya's own father, making her a noble bastard. At the time, Selya didn't quite inderstand what the fuss was about, but was much too young to make any impact on the decision to evict Sahar and Datta from the Lustabar court.

Selya spoke no word of Datta's secret visits to the castle post-eviction. She enjoyed seeing her friend, and snuck food from the kitchens to give to her. When Selya got accepted to the presigious Arklight Academy, though, the two had a massive fight about whether or not the choice to go was truly Selya's or her conspiring father's, and never spoke again.

At 16, Selya began her higher education at Arklight Academy, a boaring school attended by the wealthy and aristocracy. The academy was famous for its focus on the wizardly arts and cutting-edge research on magical technique and spellcraft. Selya felt simultaneously at home and an alien at the academy, surrounded for the first time with so many peers "better" than her in skill. She did make friends and even a few crushes here and there, but her main focus was always her schoolwork.

FAMILY

Lord Virion Lustabar — Father, high elven Lord of Lustanvale. Selya aches to meet her father's expectations but sometimes feels distanced due to his cold nature. Given she is still so young, she feels like he often brushes off her goals and ideologies as things only a child would dream of.

Lady Nyma Lustabar — Mother, high elven courtier. Selya' relationship with her mother is an odd one. Her mother adores her only daughter, but also is her biggest critic. Selya often confided in her mother growing up, but as she aged she tended to keep to herself as judgement got more critical.

Arthyn Lustabar — Eldest brother, high elven abjurer. Selya rarely saw Arthyn except for when he visited court. Being over 100 years her senior, he was long out into the world when Selya was born. She mostly heard stories of his exploits as an acomplished wizard.

Nillian Lustabar — Older brother, high elven knight. Selya grew up somewhat-alongside Nillian at court. She admired his dreams of knighthood, and was objectively kindest to her out of all her family members, if a bit patronizing at times.

Sahar Kaurlel — Dancing tutor, human bard. Selya was being tutored by Sahar until she was about 8 years old. She loved learning dances from other countries and was mezmerized by her abilities as a dancer using fans and blades as accessories.

Datta Kaurlel — Half-sister, half-elf bard. Selya adored having someone her age at court, and esepcially someone as energetic as Datta. After the eviction of the Kaurlels, however, their relationship became much more strained, and eventually ended all together.

Selya often dresses in extravigance. If she's dressing more casually she'll almost always wear her hair in an interesting style to "compensate", or wear more jewelry. She favors gentle frills, figure-hugging bodices, and off-shoulder necklines. While adventuring she goes about as practical as she's able, but she still sticks out like a sore thumb with brilliant, rich fabrics and ornate styling choices.
