Mikki's first words were with the dead before the living. She's seen them in the corners of every room and walking along every street. They've always understood ghosts more than people. They were always easier to talk to, and she'd prefer the company of a spirit over that of a living person any day.
Mikki is very empathetic and cares deeply about the ghosts she comes into contact with. She is saddened by the way each of them died, and always does what they can to make sure they are happy even in death. She works with the ghosts to help them complete their last wishes and move on. But, however caring she might be towards ghosts, her patience runs a lot thinner with the living. Mikki will always do their best to be kind, but it comes a lot harder with living beings than with the dead.
Mikki is a bubbly personality, and she gets very excited about all things morbid. This makes her come off as quite strange and offputting to those around them. She takes pride in being weird and unusual.

- Mikki is fifth generation Japanese-American, and because of this they aren't as in tune with their culture as they'd like to be.
- Mikki was bullied for their abilities growing up. Their classmates saw her speaking nothing, and explaining that it was a ghost only made things worse. Because of this, they do their best to hide her abilities from others.
- Her best, and only, friend is Lucas (or Casey) Yamazaki. The two have been inseperable since first grade. Lucas is the only one who truly believes in Mikki's gift.

Best friend
Mikki and Lucas have been insperable since first grade. Both of them, finding it hard to make friends, gravitated to each other. Although Lucas never had concrete proof of Mikki's abilities, he's always believed and supported her. (And this belief, of course, comes in handy when he dies and Mikki is the only one he can turn to.) The two of them love and trust each other very much. Mikki is not ready to let Lucas go. The one time they've had a living person love and support them, they become a ghost as well.
roommate
Mikki and Eve are college roommates. The two get off to a rocky start, and will have to come around to understanding each other. Eve is a skeptic, and doesn't have a lot of belief in Mikki's ability. Mikki wishes she didn't have a roommate because it makes interacting with Lucas a lot harder, especially if she wants to keep her gift under wraps.
Unbeknownst to Mikki, Eve develops a crush on them. She's like 'you're a freak... can we kiss on the mouth?'

Ryuji is the only other person Mikki knows with the same ability as hers. Ryuji, like Mikki can also speak to ghosts. However, the way Ryuji goes about handling spirits is in direct opposition to Mikki's. Mikki does not like how Ryuji does things (choosing to exorcise spirits without second thought), leading to her not liking him very much. And it's mutual, neither of them seeing eye to eye on how the other does things.
