Samay Kaur

He/him, 30 years old, botanist 

High-strung and anxious. He speaks with a stutter and is always hand-wringing over something or the other that’s out of his control. It’s very hard to get him to relax about anything, many often joke that he’s going to pass his nervous energy off to his plants one of these days. He prefers the company of the plants he cultivates as opposed to other people, as he’s terrible afraid of screwing up social interactions. Only ever talking to people if it’s part of his job, or if he is forced to. If you manage to get a hearing with him, he is very soft-spoken and gentle underneath that thick blanket of nerves. He gets along with children very well, as he’s very patient and it’s hard for him to get angry.

Samay lost his parents at an age so young he doesn’t remember a thing about them, not long after being adopted by an Akrasodra couple in Radz-at-Han. Though he has never asked for sure, he assumes that they were friends of his real parents. Samay was, and still sort of is, a rather sickly child. He was born with a blood condition that among other things, rendered him bed-ridden for almost the entirety of his childhood. His adoptive father was an alchemist that worked at the High Crucible, so medicine was never an issue. But boredom was; so, seeking something for him to do that did not strain him too much, his mother suggested letting him care for their small garden. This quickly clicked with him, and his passion has been botany ever since.

Further into his teens and moreso into his adulthood, he was able to cope with his illness better, and thus able to venture outside his home more often. Though his complete lack of social life at a young age rendered him an anxious mess the first time anyone tried to talk to him - and so after that most his trips outside the home consisted of him accompanying his father to work. While he would not consider himself a true alchemist, it did teach him basics of the craft. Also through his visits with his father, he was hired to grow and deliver ingredients needed by the High Crucible.

His life has not changed much since then, he still has the same job and he still lives with his parents. Samay does not see this as a point of shame as some others might, he is quite content with his job and gets along with his parents very well.
