Hajimari is the first guardian of the Doors that separate the mortal world to the world where all the souls of the living goes after death. This realm of souls is coveted by a lot of demons who want to devour the souls and absorb their power - that's why the passage going through the world of the living to the world of the souls needs to be guarded by ferocious creatures.
