Azalea

Azalea and his twin sister, Cedar, were hatched to Cassava and Pitcher in the Pantalan city of Silver Stone. Before they hatched, Cedar and Azalea’s egg was enchanted by a traveling Nightwing animus, giving them the ability to turn invisible at will for up to 35 seconds at a time. Azalea and Cedar had a fairly normal childhood, with Azalea being the more outgoing and adventurous twin, Cedar always trailing after him like a sidekick. When they were four years old their parents decided to send Azalea and Cedar to Jade Mountain Academy in Pyrrhia, wanting them to see more of the world than what Silver Stone had to offer. At Jade Mountain Azalea was very popular with other students, while Cedar was more of an outcast, being more shy and reserved. However Azalea made an effort to include his twin sister in his games and to introduce her to his friends.

During the start of the war between the Pyrrhia Leafwings and the Mudwings, the Mudwings launched a bombing campaign against Jade Mountain in an attempt to kill Pantalan students. These bombing causes large sections of caves to collapse, trapping many dragonets and teachers under the rubble, including Azalea’s sister. During these attacks, Azalea and other dragonets dug tirelessly to try to save those trapped underneath the rubble. During this time Azalea managed to save four dragons, with the other students and teachers of Jade Mountain hailing him a hero. However, despite his best efforts, Azalea never managed to find his sister, and eventually she was presumed dead.

Years later, Azalea became a general in the Leafwing army, fighting against the Mudwings. It was then that he finally found his sister, who was fighting as a spy and double agent for the Mudwings. One night Azalea snuck into a Mudwing camp to look for Cedar, and found her sitting on a cliff, watching the rest of the camp. Azalea went to her, asking her why she was fighting for the Mudwings, who killed so many of their own dragons. Cedar in turn accused Azalea of leaving her to die while he saved other dragons during the cave collapses at Jade Mountain, then prancing around like a hero while she almost died buried under the rubble. Azalea said the Mudwings were the reason that the caves collapsed in the first place, that the Mudwings were murderers, but Cedar immediately replied that dragons would always kill each other and leave their siblings to die in cave collapses. That the war would always go on. She said it wouldn’t make any sense to fight for the person who she perceived to have left her to die.

Azalea asked why she would fight for the dragons who tried to kill her, and Cedar said that no one else was trying to be good, trying not to hurt people, so why should she try to be a good person? It didn’t matter if she was fighting on the side of killers, nothing mattered. Azalea, scared of losing his sister after only just finding her, tried to guilt trip Cedar into coming back with him, into leaving the war behind and starting over back on Pantala. Cedar just got angier, accusing Azalea of never loving her, of using her as a pawn or a sidekick. Azalea, realizing his sister didn’t care about him, wouldn’t want to go home with him, left, abandoning his post as a general and flying back to Pantala. He moved back to Silver Stone, becoming a tattoo artist and trying to forget about the war and leave everything that happened to him on Pyrrhia behind. Years later, at the end of the war, Azalea found out his sister had been captured and sentenced to life in prison. Even though she still hates him, Azalea visits her once a month. He doesn’t want his sister to be alone, even if she would rather never see anyone than see him.

Present Day

Azalea currently lives with his boyfriends Porcupine and Caterpillar in Silver Stone, in Pantala.
