Leander comes from a colony of cats that live around an abandoned lighthouse they call the Beacon of Hellespont. They maintain it’s fire in honor of their deeply rooted beliefs in the blue warden’s guiding of the tides. The everlasting sun has never been kind to them, but recently the waters around the beacon have been rough, fishing has been unproductive, and storms have become increasingly frequent.
Leander recently inherited the role of Tide Bringer- the title given to the cat who keeps the lighthouse’s flame burning- from his sister Ino, who died of water rot. Despite his dedication to maintaining the Beacon's light, conditions don't improve. His people, ever superstitious, believe that Leander’s family must have done something to upset the blue warden to cause such misfortune. When the eclipse happens, the entire colony is put on edge. Rumors spread quickly and tensions become high. Leander takes the eclipse as a sign to follow the call to bring back the night and clear his family's name, meeting his two new friends Hecaerge and Kaiser along the way."I don't want my footsteps to be silent anymore."
CHARMING, ADAPTABLE, DEDICATED // AVOIDANT, SUPERSTITIOUS, UNTRUSTING
Although he's very social at his core, the judgement and condemnation Leander experienced from his community at the Beacon of Hellespont left him insecure and untrusting. He does his best to hide it. Generally, Leander presents himself to be calm and adaptable, with a go-with-the-flow attitude. He avoids sharing much information about himself, but loves to hear other's stories.
Leander is extremely devoted to those he does deem trustworthy. He was raised with a strong sense of duty and strives to support his friends and family with everything he has. Little by little, he is learning to let them support him too. He loves spending time with others but prefers to avoid speaking about serious topics, instead opting for humor and friendly banter. He is a loyal follower of the Blue Warden, finding comfort in his faith and the cool water that soothes his burning heart.
Responsibility hangs heavy on his shoulders, and his newly discovered red soul weighs him down further. Despite his usual adaptability, his power and the rot that infected him along with it aren't something he can easily accept. The smoke that leaks from his mouth like waterfalls serves as a reminder of his supposed shortcomings as the keeper of the Beacon's flame.
