Hazelnut was at the beginning a very spiteful person. During his childhood and adolescence in Parfeadia he was jealous about those that were born with the ability to cast magic since he was not able to no matter how hard he tried. In some moments of his life he got laughed at for trying the impossible- a normal cookie could never use magic.
His dream was to become a great scientist who will make magic possible for everyone.

Next to that he wanted to create Time Magic- It seemed nobody was currently able to control this magic so he was ready to show this revolutionary creation of magic.
To start with his plans he decides to visit the Time Balance Department but wasn't welcomed there in the first place, nobody wanted to answer his questions until a little girl came up to him, offering her help to the grumpy man.
He at first declined to Mayo and claimed that he doesn't need the help of a child until he gave in and accepted her help. "Better than nothing" he said to himself.

After a lot of time they started caring about each other on a family basis, especially after Mayo dropped the bomb that her parents went missing for a very very long while-
Hazel thought the worst, already told himself that they are probably dead but didn't wanted to destroy Mayos hope. His sympathy and Empathy for Mayo started to grow which made him start caring about her as if she was his own daughter.
