Durendal Vaulkner

Cryomancer terrified of the unrelenting march of time. He was giftedthe power of cryomancy from the God of Cold Aqüilo.

    Many years ago, he lost his spouseand property, due to the Terra Ignis War. Such loss has haunted him since, causing grief so great it was noticed by the God of Cold; a god which, in turn, decided to gift him cryomancy to help him cope with his melancholy, thus granting him better control over what he had and prevent further loss, as well as a longer longevity, as his aging slowed down due to the cold imbued to his body.

    Although, as Durendal wasn't made of aware of his divine presence, he believed it to be the doing of a god he already praised: Ruaidhri; a detestable character, but seen by the eyes of many as a benevolent divine, thanks to the lies spread through Leviet's preaching. Durendal entered the cult in hopes of giving his life the meaning it once had; however, he left after meeting Lysander, and learning of the cult's ties with the paramilitary Locked Hearts, and their plan to bring about a totalitarian state.

    Old and cynical, he values stability and peace of mind above all else. Desperately clinging onto everything he can, Durendal also tends to keep his possessions still and frozen, coated with resilient ice, in fear of them breaking by accident. Always seeing the glass completely empty, believing everyday is inherently worse than yesterday. This attitude was a result of him suddenly losing his loved one and everything else he held dear, and he is currently looking for them, in a desperate, broken faith of them still being alive.
   An old soul, despite his wisdom and great life experience, the trauma of losing everything around him left him emotionally crippled, hindering his own rationale in the process. He often denies logic for the sake of superstition, succumbing in an unending fight against his omniphobia.

    As of now, he is in a party of two with Lysander. They often bicker due to being opposites in every way, but are still fond of each other.
