Alder

A hapless guy from a shitty family. After his parents' "mysterious" passing, Alder became focused on finding a sense of normalcy and stability, which led to him becoming a shutin. They sought out their long-lost younger sister, and in a moment of panic found themself introducing themself as an old friend, rather than as a sibling.

Due to their late parents' connection to the creation of Ataraxia, a cult-run city in the sky, Alder was invited to assist in an evaluation to select the next citizens of the city from a set of ultimates. Promised their own place in the city despite not having an ultimate title, Alder accepted the offer.

On the first day of the evaluation, it was made clear that there was a change in plans. The proctor and son of two of Ataraxia's ministers, Konami Matsurino, had hijacked the evaluation with the goal of taking Ataraxia down. Alder decided to trust him, and go along with his plans. The rules were adjusted to that of a killing game, in an attempt to cause a scandal to open the media's eyes to what was beneath Ataraxia's surface. Over the course of the 'evaluation', they and Konami became fairly close friends.

It wasn't part of the plan for Konami to get caught before the media got to them, though. The final day of the evaluation turned into a trial to expose the proctor of his crimes against Ataraxia. Alder tried to lie- to keep him in the clear, but when the final suspicions landed on them, Konami wouldn't let him take the blame. After confessing to being the proctor behind the slaughter, Konami was taken in for execution. In his final moments, he detonated a series of bombs planted inside Ataraxia itself, taking the city to the ground.

And Alder went home without ever being found complicit. No consequences for their own decisions, just a guilty conscience.
