About.

Previously a normal trainer of the Alola region, Kapu is a deceased young adult who wanders the world as a ghost. In life, he took part in the island trial and gathered a handful of Z-Crystals, trying to work his way to the top.

Being trained by Trial Captian Acerola, Kapu gained a fascination for ghost-type pokemon, though this often ended up in him not realizing just how powerful said pokemon can be.

friendly | selfless | upbeat
reserved | ambitious | curious
impulsive | rash | unpredictable

✧ First Face : The World.

When it comes to interacting with the world around him, Kapu is very laidback. He doesn't seem to mind how others think of him, and lives with the goal of being himself in mind.

He understands that some people might not like him, and that's okay. He thinks that if people want to be his friend, they'll like him for him, and not the person he pretends to be. He's typically a calm person who happens to make a few rash decisions, but doesn't everyone?

Overall, Kapu tries to be himself in every case he can. He might act out and be dramatic just to entertain, but overall, he's his authentic self.

✧ Second Face: Close ones.

When it comes to friends and family, Kapu's personality changes are minimal, but noticable regardless.

He's noticably more affectionate with those he's close with. He headbutts others or nudges them as a greeting, and acts more open as a whole. While he was talkative and disorganized before, Kapu's calmer and more collected with his friends. Friendly banter and teasing is a given if you're this dude's friend. He spends as much time as he can with those he holds dear.

Companionship is important to Kapu, be it his pokemon or his friends. He'd do anything to keep them from getting hurt, no matter what.

✧ Third Face: True Reflection.

Away from anyone, Kapu's scared. He's scared of a lot of things, in spite of his outgoing and exaggerated personality.

With how open he can be, this face of himself is very, very sparsley shown aside from maybe one or two people. By himself, Kapu usually gets lost in his brain for hours on end, thinking about thing after thing after thing.

He often pinches himself in order to see if he's dreaming or not. It's one of his greatest fears- finally living the life he was stripped away from, and then waking up one day to realize it was all fake.

Build. short/slightly muscled

— Kapu isn't very tall, around 5'1" or around that line.

— With how active he is, Kapu has a decent? Amount of muscle on him like he can pick up a lycanroc with little to no issue

Scars. present

— Most scars of Kapu's are hardly visible, appearing as light nicks and scratches on his body

— There's a couple bigger ones, like a scar behind his head. It's hidden by his mass of hair, but you can tell it's there by the raised skin on his scalp.

Voice.

— His voice varies on his tone, but Kapu's voice is typically very??? Ghost-like, a slight echo reverberating with every word he says

— Case in point: Sal Fisher I will not be taking criticism

Eyes. n/a

— Kinda rude to ask a guy with no face

fashion sense. casual / outdoorsy(?)

— Kapu usually wears short-sleeved shirts and vests, he doesn't like how tight sleeves feel

— Hoodies are an exception he'll wear those all the time + he likes cargo pants I think

Scent. earthy / do rocks have a smell??

Accessories. hat / misc.

— Accessories vary??? One week it could be a Lycanium Z crystal dangling from his neck, another it's a pair of earrings, and another it's a backpack slung across his shoulders

— The only accessory that stays constant is his hat, it's a comfort item of sorts to his and he rarely takes it off

Dislikes. wild weather, ants, caves, log bridges, seaweed [ would rather die than touch it ], deep water, tight spaces.

Fears. heights, caves, failure, losing people, being forgotten

Ambitions. becoming an e4 member, repairing his broken z-ring, training his team, learn how to cook maybe

Mental Health. Kapu's mental health is fairly stable, as stable as it comes with being dead. Aside from the occasional nightmare or flashback to his demise, Kapu is pretty intact for the most part

Beliefs. In Kapu's mind, he thinks that everyone deserves a second chance, and no one is inherently bad. Some decisions are made in the heat of the moment, and that's alright.

Hobbies. Aside from the usual trainer-esque hobbies- catching pokemon, training pokemon... Kapu?? Does have a few other hobbies, namely watching stars and collecting berries. He often keeps maps and notes about certain berries or apricorns he finds in the wild, just for future reference. How does he know which ones are poisonous? They just go in his mouth and Kapu evaluates it from there

"You got a question? I have an answer, so shoot!"

01. What's the lie you say most often?

"Uh... I don't know, that I don't lie? 'Cuz I do, I just can't think of any off the top of my head."

Kapu???? doesn't lie a lot, he's a fairly honest person and only twists the truth if needed + harmless

02. What do you notice first in the reflection versus what most others first notice looking at you?

"I don't know, my face, maybe? It's kind of... y'know... up in your face."

I think this one iiissss pretty self explainatory probably

03. If you were suddenly challenged, would you rather run away or stay and fight?

"Kidding me? I'd stay and kick their ass!! No way I'm backing down from a challenge, I'll show those punks who's boss!"

Kapu's extremely full of himself, at least in battle scenarios. He fights with everything he's got, either in the pokemon or fist context. He never backs down from a challenge, but also happens to get angered very easily.

04. Are you proud of who you are?

"Maybe? I don't know. Define 'proud' for me, will you?"

In short: no, not really. Kapu feels like he could be doing more if he just had more time.

05. Are you afraid of death?

"Haha, funny one."

Despite having died once before, Kapu's fear of death is ever-present in the back of his head. Sometimes it's not even the fear of him dying- it could be his pokemon, his friends, etc.

06. What does a perfect world look like to you?

"A world where there's no evil teams running amok, probably! Also, one with faster travel options. Boats take too long and get me seasick, and planes clog up my ears!"

Despite hailing from Alola??? Kapu doesn't like traveling via boat, as he usually ends up getting seasick during that time

07. What do you see in an ideal partner/s (romantic or platonic)?

"Honestly, anyone who's cool with me is enough. Doesn't matter if they talk a lot or not, I'm cool with it either way!"

Kapu values his relationships, on either end of the spectrum. He sees himself as a person who can get along with just about anyone. He's able to take hold of the conversation if another person doesn't wanna speak, and loves listening to others when given the chance.

08. Is there somebody you haven’t been able to forgive? What did they do? Do you want to forgive them?

"I don't think so??? Everyone in my life is pretty cool in my book, can't think of anyone."

Being a forgiving person, Kapu doesn't hold grudges unless it's serious. He might sulk for a day or two if something goes wrong or he gets insulted, but he's back to his regular self in the same 24 hours.

09. Do you think the future is hopeful? Why or why not?

"Hopeful? Like, will things get better? I don't know, I'm worried about if I can pay for 394 super potions and not crash the market."

Kapu doesn't worry about the future, but the present. Present or past, it really depends but he's never really worried about what happens next

10. What is your darkest childhood memory?

"Good question, great question, even."

There's no way out.

Chapter Zero.
Prologue.

Born into Seafolk Village, Kapu always had something of an unlucky streak.

Kapu was considered bad luck by many of the villagefolk. Despite this, he was able to navigate the lands of Poni with ease. His parents worked together to raise litters of rockruffs, which is how he met his partner, Cliff.

While finding new homes for the rest of Cliff's litter, one of the smallest pups was left while the others went off with their trainers. Kapu remained there with his sister, Akoni. Eventually, she left to train with her team as well.

So, with not much left to do, Kapu took the pup under his wing and started to train him. Before long, Cliff had imprinted on Kapu, and the two became stuck like glue.

Shortly thereafter, he became aware of the island challenge. It was late June, so he didn't exactly want to start just yet, but kept a note for later months.

But, he wasn't opposed to getting some pointers on how to battle. During a visit to Ula'ula Island to visit his grandparents (In Tapu Village), he visited the haunted store not far by. Being new to pokemon battling at the time, he got lost in the store. There, he met Trial Captain Acerola, who helped him navigate out.

Naturally, he was inspired by her ability to work so closely with (what others would see as) scary pokemon. So, with his parents's permission, he got the green light to train at the supermarket once a week, until December.

Also, he managed to snag an absol right outside his grandfather's mobile home during the night, so that was pretty neat. He named her Tapu, in honor of the place he caught her at.

As the Alolan sun drifted further away, and temperatures dropped, Kapu was still slaving away at his training.

Too afraid to battle actual trainers yet, he stuck with weaker pokemon to defeat and potentially add to his team. While no actual trial challenging was done here, Kapu spent the next few months familiarizing himself with the other islands.

During that time, however, he did run into quite a few people who had trouble with ghost-type pokemon haunting their homes. Kapu took it upon himself to ward those spirits off, with the help of Tapu and Cliff. On one such journey, he was examining a woman's attic, and came face to face with a yamask.

His first instinct was to defeat it, but after thinking it over, he chucked a pokeball at it and assured the woman her home was safe now. As he retrieved the caught yamask, a board game caught his eye. It was old and dusty, long forgotten, if the wear and tear on the thing is enough to go by. 'Crypt: Maze of Terror' it read. So, without thinking it through, Kapu named his newly caught ghost-type friend 'Krypt'.

With a K, because he already had a team member with a C-starting name. With three pokemon under his belt and December inching ever-closer, Kapu felt pretty confident about his chances in the island challenge.

In one month, he was able to add two more pokemon to his team. Ranch, a cursola he obtained from a Galarian tourist, and Stalagmite the kabutops (kabuto at the time), abandoned on the rocky Poni beaches. So far, things were looking good. Apparently, more pokemon had been getting abandoned left and right, and ghost-type sightings were becoming more frequent. Kapu was only able to help with a select few cases, but people described the creatures as inhuman, or monstorous.

For pokemon, this would be normal. A feeling in Kapu's gut told him that something was wrong.

Chapter One.
Paranormal Predicament.

December 1st hit. Before Kapu ventured of to Melemele Island, his dad gave him and his sister something- a Z-Ring. Both his mother and father had done the gym challenge, and in a way, these rings were special to them. They had been recgonized by Tapu Fini, and hoped their kids could continue that legacy.

He and Akoni butted heads, encouraging one another to finish the trial before the other, and just like that, they took off. Kapu was able to finish the Verdant Cave's challenge in under a few hours, but wasn't able to finish it as fast as his sister.

As soon as Akoni finished her trial, the two bickered, laughing as they went to challenge the final boss of the island.

Akoni went first. She was able to defeat Hala easily, what with her array of flying and psychic-type pokemon. Kapu was next, and Ranch easily wiped his entire team with some help from Tapu. Just like that, first island, under his belt.

Just as the family was celebrating their victory, Kapu got a call from Professor Kukui. Apparently, there were hauntings going on in an unnamed cave on his island. Naturally, Kapu agreed to check it out. Acerola and Akoni offered to come with, but Kapu insisted he would be fine on his own. His sister gave him a flashlight, just to be safe.

It was 6pm on a cold night- the stars had just begun to rise into the sky, and Kapu had no clue where he was going. He followed Tapu, who apparently knew where she was going, while Kapu and the rest of his team followed behind. The path they followed opened to the mouth of a cave, wide and gaping. A rush of cold air brushed past Kapu, and despite the warnings, he pressed onward.

He cast his flashlight down the rocky walls, walking along the stone bridge that covered an open chasm down below. Krypt rode on Cliff's back for comfort, keeping its face nestled in the dog's fur. Stalagmite, now fully evolved, walked in front of everyone to clear out any rocks blocking their path.

The further they went, the darker it got. Kapu could hear scratching in the cave's walls, but he didn't think about it too hard. He had seen this before. He could handle it. At the end of the tunnel, Kapu cast his beam onto the wall to find...

...A sableye. A single sableye, gnawing away at a crystal. Kapu and his team stared in disbelief, as the trainer chucked a pokeball at it. He picked up the crystal it had been eating, and ended up naming the creature 'Jasper' after it.

As Kapu turned around, he heard the wall behind him start to crack. Fissures spread out every which way, spreading across stone like a spiderweb. In the darkness were a single set of eyes, boring into Kapu's. In that moment, one word rang through his head.

Run.

Recalling all his pokemon in a heartbeat, he bolted the way he came. Cold air bit into his neck and hands the faster he ran, but he didn't stop, He blindly crashed into corners trying to escape this thing. He didn't even notice that Cliff escaped his pokeball to run alongside Kapu, barking to keep the creature at bay.

As the cave's entrance reached his line of sight, Kapu quickened his pace. Rocks fell all around him. Boulders rolled into the void below. It was at that moment he realized the floor below wasn't just an empty void, but a pit of sharpened stone spikes.

He didn't have a second to react. The creature was in front of him. Cliff leaped at it first, clawing at its face. Before it could do any harm to the dog, Kapu recalled him. The monster slammed itself onto the bridge once, twice-

CRACK, went the earth.

The floor below Kapu's soles gave way, and he was left free-falling in the air. He tried to right himself, to save his fall, grab onto the cave walls, stop your fall, do something, stop this, gods, help-

His thoughts came to a screeching halt.

Chapter Two.
Just Barely Surviving.

Mind hazy, Kapu felt his legs be dragged across gravely ground- up a steep slope, as stones and pebbled scrapped his skin.

His eyes adjusted to the darkness. Above him, Jasper. The tiny pokemon hauled the lightweight trainer up a carved path, and onto the ground above. His legs felt weak, like they could give out at any moment. Despite this, he was able to haul himself to his feet despite how wobbly he felt.

He heard whining next to him. He felt through the darkness, and eventually landed a hand on soft, matted fur. Cliff, his mind supplied.

The trainer lifted up the rockruff, feeling how something warm dripped from Cliff's throat and onto his hand. He swiftly set him down, and ripped off his shirt sleeves to supply a makeshift tourniquet around his neck. Cliff's whines stopped, but Kapu didn't let him roam freely. He searched for his flashlight, but it was nowhere to be found.

Jasper tugged on Kapu's shoe. Its eyes gleamed, even in the darkness. As fear welled up in Kapu's throat, he followed it anyway. He quickly realized that the cave had collapsed- the entrance was blocked off by a pile of rubble. He tried to peek through the cracks in stone, but he couldn't see anything, only darkness.

For the next few days, Kapu blindly sent out his pokemon to help navigate the darkened cave. He never strayed far from the entrance, though. He clung to that single bit of light he had left in order to ward off whatever lurked in the dark.

He wasn't alone. There was no way out.

Stalagmite couldn't make so much as a dent in the fallen boulders. Cliff was hurt as is, so sending him to help would be a death wish for the pup. Tapu, the strongest of the team, couldn't even walk right.

Days passed, and Kapu felt paralyzed by his own fear. He hugged the cave wall, yearning to feel some semblance of light on his skin again. His family would wonder where he went, surely. If not them, then one of the Kahunas.

On day seven, Kapu was about to fall asleep, when suddenly a blinding beam of light swallowed his vision. He screamed, covering his eyes. Four rescue team members flooded in, brushing past Kapu to sweep the area. He gasped and yelled to them, crying in relief as he shouted in their direction. But, no matter how loud he screamed, they didn't acknowledge him. They were fixed on the chasm below. Kapu then noticed the tears on his hands weren't clear, salty drops, but rather an inky, jet-black.

Kapu peered over the edge.

He could barely see it. At the very bottom lay a corpse- grey clothes, dark hair, and tan skin. All of it had been covered in blood, blooming from the back of his head where a spike stabbed through. One of the officers slid down with a rope, navigating the spiky maze and lifted its face off the rock.

Kapu wished they hadn't. Instantly, he toppled over and hacked up a stream of black goo, clutching his stomach. Tears fell from his featureless face, each cry getting interrupted by another hack or cough.

He remained like this for some time while the rescue team wrapped his mangled corpse up and took him out of the cave, as the Alolan ghost mourned his own death.
