Summary

Oatstar is the youngest out of the leaders. He was made a warrior at 8 moons and a deputy not too long after. As his dad was the leader, nobody dared to question thesse choices. Because of these choices, though, Oatstar never got the respect he should have gotten, as many cats saw him as someone not fit for the role.

Personality

As Wheatnose, his secret identity, he is a childish and cheerful tom. He always makes everyone smile around him with his cheerful and outgoing personality. He is rarely sad and always tries to help. Despite being young and small he is suprisingly a good fighter.

As the shadow leader, he is known to be scary and intimitading. He is a master at psychological manipulation and mind games. Somehow he manages to make all cats fear him. Though in all honesty it only works because they are cautious of the unknown. Nothing is known about him when he is a shadow leader, and so it's natural to be cautious around him. He uses this to his advantage..

Oatstar carries a curse, the curse of bloodlust. When his curse is active, he is compeletly emotionless. It's easy to tell when it's active, as his eyes turn cold and you can feel the longing to kill in his eyes. He doesn't think or realize what is happening during this time. To him it's a dream.

Story

His dad named him Oatclaw, because he believed that all cats needed to see him as a strong cat, and not someone weak. Oatclaw never liked his name, as he felt like it did not fit him at all. He likes to call himself Oatfield instead as a nickname, yet he never made it official even after his father died.

BACKSTORY

His parents were in a half-clan relationship. His father was the leader of Stormclan called Hurricanestar and his mother was Duskcry, a descendant of Dawnstar who was the leader of Ashclan long ago. The clan finds out about Duskcry and she is thrown into the pit of fire as punishment for this. Duskcry lies about the father and says that he already died in battle before. And he lies about the kid, telling her clan that he didn’t survive. Hurricanestar keeps reminding Oatkit that he has to be powerful and strong, and he must become a leader because his mate died for him. He begins training him when he’s only 3 and a half moons old, being harsh with it. He was made a warrior at 8 moons old and very shortly deputy too.

Because of this many didn't respect him. Nobody also dared to argue because of his father. A clan leader’s word is always the law. Oatclaw is sent to his first mission as a deputy and his father expects him to succeed. But everything goes wrong. He isn’t good at leading his fellow warriors and most of them die. Hurricanestar is furious because of this failure. He hits him, nicking Oatclaw’s ear. After this he is even stricter with oatclaw, and constantly training him so harshly that he can barely move.

Thunderinghollow is friends with Hurricanestar and Hurricanestar truly cares about his friend. Thunderinghollow soon finds a mate, Foxsneer. During this time, Oatclaw’s dad forces him to kill half-clan cats. Being in a half-clan relationship is punishable by death. He never dared to say no to his father. He watches as Hurricanestar gets closer and closer with Thunderinghollow and his family. Foxsneer has two kits Snailkit and Leopardkit.

One night Oatclaw sneaks into her den and kills the two young kits. Because of all the training Oatclaw’s dad put him through he was able to use both of his blessings extremely well. But it was also clear that it burdened his body a lot. Coughing blood was not unusual for him. Foxsneer is heartbroken when she sees her kits dead and attacks Oatclaw. He avoids her attacks without any problems. He leads her outside away from the clan and kills her there. Thunderinghollow follows the trail and sees this. He desperately tries to save his mate, but loses to Oatclaw. Most cats have not used their blessings a lot, as there was no need for this. It was peaceful as Oatclaw was the one who had to get rid of the threats.

He injures Thunderinghollow, making him half blind. Oatclaw emotionlessly walks away, tired of everything. Finally, Hurricanestar arrives. He had found the dead kits and also followed the trail. He finds Thunderinghollow half blinded crying and Foxsneer on the floor, dead. He is furious and follows the bloodied paw prints. He is surprised and horrified to find Oatclaw at the end of them. He attacks his son and they fight but in the end, Oatclaw ends up pinning him down in the river. Hurricanestar regrets making his son this strong, and he can only but helplessly struggle as he watches his son for the last time, his eyes cold as he murders him.

The strain of using two blessings for moons and training them to be equally powerful ends up catching up to him and he struggles to breathe. He falls down, about to die. As Starclan arrives, he begs them. He begs them that he wants to live. He begs them that he wants to start over. Starclan tells him that he has committed crimes and they can’t let him live as punishment. Starclan feels sorry for him, as half-clan cats living like this was their fault too so they agree to let him live. But for a price. They curse Oatclaw, as punishment for the crimes but he doesn’t seem to mind. Oatclaw is cursed with bloodlust, he always seeks death and chaos as punishment for what he had done before. They grant him his nine lives as he was the deputy and he survives, but loses one of his lives because of using his blessings too much.

That incident was hidden beneath lies and it was said that an assassin from Ashclan killed them. And Oatclaw also ‘died’ during this incident. He took the leader position as the shadow leader. At first nobody takes him seriously but when Thunderinghollow backs up the lie they accept him. He didn’t want to do this but he was afraid. Afraid that he would end like everyone else he knew. The shadow leader makes Thunderinghollow the deputy, as only he knows the truth. And only he could lead the clan well in his eyes.

ROLEPLAY LORE

Seeing how nobody is going to take him seriously normally, he decides to become a shadow leader and so Oatclaw 'dies' before becoming a leader, and he becomes a shadow leader with unknown identity. As he is still young, he is often mistaken to be a girl so nobody suspects that it's him. During a gathering, he notices that Sparkpaw is in Ashclan. Due to unknown reasons he decides to lie to Cinderstar, the Ashclan leader that Sparkpaw crossed the border, which is extremely strongly forbidden in their clans. Cinderstar exiles the apprentice and after the gathering he goes after him. He asks Sparkpaw to join Stormclan and he agrees, unaware that he planned this all along. Ashclan sends a spy to Stormclan and the spy tells Cinderstar that the shadow leader took Sparkpaw into his clan so she is mad, thinking that he lied to steal her warrior which wasn't exactly a lie either.

Cinderstar calls for an emergency gathering a few days later, and all clans gather again. She accuses the shadow leader of lying so that he can take Sparkpaw away from her, and the two leaders argue. As Cinderstar's own warriors are against her choices she attacks one of them, Scorchclaw. This causes Starclan to cover the moon and the gathering is over. Stormclan is getting ready for a battle as it was basically certain that Cinderstar will attack them with her clan. Sparkpaw runs away from the clan during this time, blaming himself for this. The shadow leader goes after him, worried and so does Sparkpelt, a Stormclan she-cat. Cinderstar attacks them with her deputy Snowheart and one of her warriors, Wolfshadow. She makes Snowheart attack the shadow leader and he accidentally kills him, not expecting him to be fragile. The deputy was barely old enough to be an apprentice. Cinderstar pretends to leave, but suddenly turns and pushes the shadow leader into the water. Sparkpelt goes after him, dragging him out from the water. His identity is revealed to Sparkpaw, Sparkpelt, Cinderstar and Wolfshadow. She flees this time and for a moment Oatstar wants to go after her with the intention to kill but stops for Sparkpaw.

The shadow leader becomes more active and grows close with Sparkpaw. Sparkpaw is made a warrior called Sparkclaw. The deputy Thunderinghollow is jealous, feeling like the power is being taken away from him by this warrior. He asks to speak with him alone, and during this he attacks Sparkclaw with the intention to kill him. The shadow leader followed them and stopped him. The deputy shows clear fear towards the leader, as if traumatized by something. It's revealed that he had taken the deputy's right eye before when the shadow leader killed his mate. He takes his other eye, making the deputy blind. Sparkclaw lies that he is going back to the clan and leaves to go to the fire pit. Oatstar washes off his shadow leader mud and goes to the clan too, but stops when he realizes that Sparkclaw’s trail doesn’t go to camp. He follows it only to find him by the fire pit. Sparkclaw had told the deputy that he often goes to the fire pit wanting to jump into it so Oatstar is worried and approaches him. Seeing how hiding it Oatstar decides to tell him the truth. He tells him that he’s half-clan, Thornclan and Stormclan and he never was Ashclan. Sparkclaw is mad at him, feeling like the leader only wanted to use him so he attacks him. At first Oatstar also unsheathes his claws as if to attack, but then he relaxes sheathing them again, his expression turning soft. Due to no defense Sparkclaw’s attack ends up killing Oatstar. "There was once a cowardly half-clan cat like you, yet he never fulfilled anyone's hopes. The cat's name was Oatstar, and he couldn't help anyone." Oatstar tells him before going limp and dying.

Sparkclaw blames Cinderstar for this and goes to find her. As she is alone by the river he drowns her, getting rid of her for good. Sparkclaw is surprised to see Oatstar alive again, but he notices that the wound he gave the leader had turned into a scar. Oatstar had but merely lost a life, and thus he didn’t die. Sparkclaw feels guilty for this and begins to avoid him. The shadow leader announces that Thunderinghollow is no longer the deputy. The new deputy was now Appletrail. Oatstar didn’t actually choose him, he picked randomly. He would have chosen Sparkclaw but the tom had refused before, so he didn’t. Seeing how Sparkclaw is sad, he insists on talking with him and after refusing a lot he finally agrees and they leave camp. Acidsplash follows them and they both are unaware. Oatstar tells Sparkclaw why he kept the secret. It would put everyone around him in danger and his parents, who are alive, in danger too. He reveals Sparkclaw’s parents who are Scorchclaw of Thornclan and Sparkpelt of Stormclan. He tells him that half-clan cats don’t have easy lives. They are either killed instantly or used. That’s because they get two gifts, that is if they survive as their bodies can’t handle two. Oatstar reveals that he is also half-clan and shows it by first using Stormclan’s gift of jumping high and then Ashclan’s gift of strength by knocking down a tree.

After this he goes to speak with starclan, because there are many questions about his parents that burden his mind. He goes there and meets Dawnstar, his grandma. He asks her whether Cinderstar killed her, and she confirms. He asks whether his mom, Duskcry, was also killed by her and she confirms that too. He tries to ask her whether Cinderstar had any kits, and hides it behind a lie. He tells the starclan cat that he just wants to lead the kit to the right back but Dawnstar senses his true intentions and leaves, not answering his questions due to him trying to use this knowledge for evil. He wanted to kill the kits. He wakes up and runs back to the clan but on his way there he runs into Sparkclaw and Flamestep. As his curse is overpowering his thoughts, he sees Flamestep as a threat. He attacks her, but Sparkclaw protects her. They fight and during this a bolt of lightning strikes between them and Dawnstar appears. Sparkclaw uses this chance to get to safety with Flamestep. It begins pouring rain and Dawnstar tells him that he cannot kill the flame colored warrior. He is angry at Starclan, saying that they cursed him so they cannot blame him for this now. He calms down when his mom, Duskcry, appears. He stares at her in silence, wondering what it would have been like if she was still alive. The starclan spirits disappear, leaving him into the rain alone.

Oatstar returns, and Sparkclaw is the first to see him. He is worried about his friend and Oatstar tells him that it was Dawnstar, a starclan cat that did this. Sparkclaw is shocked by these news. He helps him get to the medicine cat den, and as Acidsplash treats his wounds, he gets suspicious of him. He feels like he knowsthe truth. He goes on a hunting patrol alone to clear his mind, only to see Honey, a suspicious cat hunting in their territory. He attempts to chase the she-cat off only to be attacked by a dog. He avoids the dog by jumping into the branches of a tree, andtwo more dogs appear. Silversight was in the bushes watching and the dogs see him. As the dogs focus on him Oatstar escapes, saying he is going to get help. He comes back as Oatstar and saves Silversight by jumping onto the dog's muzzle while also using this to jump into the air. He lands on Honey and says that he will kill her if she doesn't call back her dogs. For a moment, he wants to kill her, not caring if Silversight dies too. Honey manages to call a dog to her who throws him onto Silversight and they escape. As he returns to camp, he notices a stranger in the camp. Acidsplash had found the kit wandering the territory alone. Oatstar decides to tell him that he wants to talk with him alone in his den which he agrees to. As they talk, Oatstar tells him that he is Oatstar and the shadow leader. Acidsplash admits that he already guessed that. Oatstar's attempts at making small talk backfire, as they only make Acidsplash more alert and scared for his life. Though Sparkclaw came in for a moment telling Oatstar to stop threatening the poor medicine cat, as he left things didn't calm down. Acidsplash glances at the death berries next to lavender behind him, as if considering his options. Acidsplash admits that he wants him to leave, and that he has nothing against him but he needs space. Blinded by the curse Oatstar starts accusing him. Accusing him of wanting to tell someone and that nothing is actually stopping him from killing the medicine cat if he wanted to. He walks away, trying to calm down and get rid of the curse. While he's doing that acidsplash poisoned a mouse he had taken. He offered it to Oatstar and he apologized, choosing that he wanted to explain himself to the cat as he knew acidsplash must have felt on edge. But before he can do that he suddenly starts coughing and for am oment wants to kill acidsplash, but chooses not to. He collapses on the floor and as acidsplash was trying to get rid of his body and dragging it away he runs into Sparkclaw. Sparkclaw is mad at Acidsplash and during their argument, Oatstar wakes up as he had only lost a life and while getting up he slashes acidsplash's face. He blinks, not quite fully there yet and Acidsplash runs out of the den leaving the clan. Sparkclaw admits that he is ready to become deputy, so he can protect him. Oatstar happily accepts that and calls a meting, also revealing his identity as shadow leader. He demotes Appletail, who was rightfully furious and Sparkclaw becomes the new deputy. After this Oatstar reveals the truth to Sparkclaw in his den, and tells him his backstory and tells him about the curse.
