The Leblanc family is one of the few noble families in Kekoa Island. They are respected by the people, even though they don't have a big influence outside the island. Jeronimo is their second son. His relationship with his family is good, although he didn't get as much attention as his sister, Maeve, the firstborn of the family and the next heir. Maeve loved her little brother, and she was his closest friend. He also had a good relationship with the Ritter family's daughter, Calliope, since her father was their family's bodyguard.

When his sister was of age, she and their father left the island for a diplomacy meeting with the other nobles of the island. What the family didn't expect was for an accident to happen in the sea. A few of the nobles managed to drift to other islands and get back eventually, including Jeronimo' father, but Maeve was lost to the sea. The family was devastated. As the months and years passed, his parents came to terms with her death, but Jeronimo's grief still lingered. Eventually, this made him stop talking altogether, opting to use sign language the few times he spoke.

As Calliope started spending more time with him, his mood started to lift a bit more, and they visited the port city more often together. There, they met a rescuer from GCSF that was bringing a lost pokemon from the sea. The incident was different from the one that struck the noble families, but it still had the very same circumstances. This lit a flame in Jeronimo's mind: what if his sister was still out there, needing rescue? Calliope thought it was possible, but his parents didn't, when he brought the question to them. Jeronimo just left it at that. It was a stretch, after all, that she was alive after all those years.

"If this message finds someone, let the Leblanc family in Kekoa island know that I, Maeve Leblanc, am still alive."

That was the message in a bottle that Jeronimo and Calliope found on a trip to the beach one fateful day. The paper it was written looked old, but it still could be possible, right? When he brought the message to his parents, they were overjoyed. Even though they didn't know where she was or if she was even still alive, a spark of hope was lit in the family. But Jeronimo didn't want to wait for another hint. The very next day, he was ready to leave for Kala Island and become a Rescuer, and Calliope was ready to follow him on his journey.
