Bit of Background

  • Deo started out as quiet guy living in a seaside town. He was often bullied by people he didn't even know, but had a meek personality and always brushed it off. He enjoyed reading fiction books about all sorts of topics, but especially liked the apocolypse genre. Those books in particular allowed him to still feel thankful for the world he lived in.
  • One day as he's walking down the street, he encounters a preacher yelling about the end of the world. Everyone is either ignoring the man and walking past, or taking a moment to shout that he's crazy. Deo can't help but be moved by the preacher's words, though, and the preacher notices.
  • So when he's done with his speech, and goes up to Deo and they start to talk about what this man is sure will happen in the future. Deo thinks it's all garbage at first, but starts to relate to some of his points and considering them. Could this preacher's god really save them from the red sun that would burn the world down?
  • Long story short, this guy essentially indoctrinated Deo into his cult. Over time, Deo worked his way through the ranks until he was declared the new leader. Deo would take to the streets, preaching about the end of the world and how only his god could save them. More people started to join in, and eventually he thought of himself as a god.
  • Almost everyone did what he said. If Deo said that a townsperson has a dark shadow inside of them and needed to be exterminated, it would be done immediately. Deo was convinced he had dreams of his god ordering him to do this and that, and that he was destined to be the their messenger.
  • In a dream, Deo was told to set the nearby forest on fire, then wait 4 days before sacrificing a certain list of people to the flames. This would guarentee that the red sun did not come for at least 20 years. Deo instructed the people on what to do, and it was so. However, something went wrong.
  • The forest was on fire, and the people were sacrificed, but the sky kept getting redder and redder. The red sun that would burn the world was not supposed to come for another 20 years, yet there it was. Deo was flabbergasted and didn't understand why his god lied to him. No way, it must have been him who got it wrong...
  • He could feel the heat of the red sun beating down on him. It was so hot he couldn't breathe, couldn't see. The townspeople turned on him in an instant, and he accepted his divine punishment. He allowed himself to be stoned, before dragging his ailing body to a cliff and throwing himself into the ocean and drowning in what he was convinced must be boiling water.
  • After a while, the forest fire died down and everything went back to normal. Deo's infamous name was dragged through the mud but was eventually forgotten completely.
About

Since coming back to earth, Deo has regressed back to when he was more timid and reclusive. Once again he is bullied by the people around him, and once again he mostly lets it slide. He went from 100% to 0% in terms of confidence, charm, and self-esteem, but he's working on bettering himself...slowly...very...very slowly...

Overall though, he wants to keep a low profile. He rekindled his love for reading and found a new passion for maps as well. He works in a small library and enjoys everyday's mundanity. He DOES wish he had a girlfriend though.

As for his cult, don't ask him about it. Sore subject. He feels foolish for ever believing in that made up god. Instead, if he's going to regard anyone as supernatural, it will be the preacher he met that day. That man predicted a furture where there would be such a great fire, the sky would turn red. How did he know there would be a giant fire? How did he know that the sky turned red from the smoke at such an early time in history? Deo is gullible, and this random man who gave him the opportunity to rise with gusto and fall without grace is his tentative god now. But that's just for him to know.
