Rockwell Light (Rho Dragunova)

The old gods that crafted this world are gone. Whether they abandoned it or met their end somehow is unclear. With their absence however, the seasons stopped turning, and monsters were birthed from the growing patches of wasteland. Beasts bourn of death and misery, who only seek to consume what uncorrupted life remains.  

 Then came the new gods, who live as mortals do in the physical realm. The new gods hold power, magic, and within the borders of their provinces, the nightmares of the wastes are pushed back. Life goes on, loyalty and devotion the entry ticket to safety-- even if the new gods' lands are often twisted facsimiles of what once was. Places that know eternal winter, places where strange alien forests grow. Each its own miniature world crafted to the local god's taste, unchanging and strange.

These new gods however, are not like the old. They fight endlessly in petty conflicts for titles and territory. They look down upon the world that is left from their towers, puppeteering those who rely on them-- those who fear them-- for glory and ego. Humans act as pawns, soldiers, prizes, playthings... casualties.

Fodder for the new gods, or food for the monsters, this is the world Rho was born into. 

A conflict between gods would rob him of his parents and siblings, but this common fate produced an uncommon outcome. A mortal determined to slay mankind's selfish protectors, preferring to face all the monsters in the world left behind.
