PERSONALITY

"Which do you dread more? The answer to your question, or the echo it leaves?" 

At first glance, Vex might seems like your everyday drifter, travelling with a pack of trusty but rather odd friends.

Observant, but courteous, and known in the fine art of performing harmless tricks and working low income for the better of the group he's traveling with. Vex truly appreciates music, mingling, thinking, and "the arts". Although not loud bout'  his interests, Vex is drawn to social gatherings as well as interesting events, and is (nowadays) surprisingly attentive to whatever happens inside capital, when rumors happen to come by. Vex is originally from just outside Mead and does harbor a soft spot for the town (and a sweet tooth for mead alike). But a  craving for more purpose with his gifts,, whatever that means, made him seek outside his home, and towards other places.

Vex might be a performer, but when caught off guard, and not as a member of Bazaar Avalon,, he presents himself somewhat more withdrawn and unconfident. Those who knows Vex tends to see the shift between his performer-self and everyday self rather easily, and getting past the selling, polite, show-man part of him, reveals at last a mild nature, and natural wonder and curiosity, regarding the gift of magic. He claims an almost naïve belief (according to some people) that magic truly ain’t that harmful. This also makes him rather liberal in his current point of view, and Vex often fights the urge to participate in said discussions, yet not wanting to start real trouble  Actually making himself a target for such rumors, does not reflect his self-interest at all.

And i shouldn't be said, that Vex is without self-interest. Some of the more unpleasant traits include his hidden, pride, whereas when he’s feeling wronged, he tends to get rather sarcastic. And whenever giving an important task, he’s too prone to cut corners. Vex has rather firm opinions, although still lacking the confidence to speak them out loud. 

And deep inside, the thought of the Witchhunters... scares him. This particular anxiety followed by hurt pride and thoughts of unfairness. Just as his magic was somewhat controlled, and useable... Right at that time, the decree came upon them. And just as they planned a big journey towards the capital, they had to flee in the opposite direction, now pushed towards finding different jobs and make up unnecessary lies on their way. 

The life he imagined living when he first discovered his powers, wouldn’t be the one he posses now.

HISTORY


  • Growing up just outside the small village Mead, Vex remembers the early years of his childhood rather blissfully. Although the Valadrian family kept to themselves, preferring the simpler life, they occasionally went on trips to the neighboring towns. When not playing with traveling kids who happened to come by, his mother, a black doe named Melodirana, would take him with her on her ingredient gatherings and foraging trips, hoping it would inspire him to follow her footsteps in tending the tea-and-herbs shop their family owned, a just a bit outside of town. And it seemed like that was exactly what he planned to do, until the age of 20.

  • Because then one fateful day, it happened that Vex did something.... unexpected, in the otherwise expectable, everyday life. He made something.
  • Before this, he was hectically fleeing a swarm of wasps, which he had managed to anger, stumbling into a flower field they were particularly fond of. But as if destiny wanted it, he managed to stumble once again falling painfully flat on his face this time. His ears flickered as he heard them approaching, their buzzing sound like a war drum signaling they were close. He jerked his head back to see how close- - and a spark of orange flames emerged from the ground behind him, the smell of smoke and warmth of fire reflecting on his surprised face. It seemed real. It felt real. And it grew, edging closer towards him like a shield protecting him from the insects. What a lucky coincidence! But the initial relief was quickly replaced by dread, as he didn't know where the flames emerged from, let alone to how to stop the flames.
  • And that's how his parents later found him, exhausted by the fatigue of magic and fast asleep. Visible hoofmarks were scattered on the ground around him, as if Vex had been stomping and trashing around, trying to ‘fight’ something which wasn't there anymore. And as they knowingly got him back home, they prepared themselves – and him - for the “news”.

  • The following days, Vex learned two things. One was the fact that his parents were mages from the neighboring country Siregal, who fled to Ivras about 12 years ago – or so they said, he didn’t remember. And secondly, whether they or their family had been a part of the unrest, or not, that they firmly refused to answer.
  • But they were illusionists, enchanters, and tricksters. As Vex began training in the practical use of his newborn magic, under the watchful eyes of his mother, he also started questioning the origin of their family, and the whereabouts of their bloodline, sneaking an answer from his father every now and then. And the training was kept a secret, warning him on using it without second thoughts.
  • Until the age of 26, Vex worked on controlling his magic and practiced its different applications. But with these powers now bestowed on him, everything changed, of course.
  • Now being a mage himself, Vex suddenly took an interest in politics, rights, debates and everything alike, and pursued a different kind of lifestyle.; something new, and as his younger self would say, something meaningful. Following the news of the Archmage Hagias demise, and the restriction on mages as a new Archon emerges, Vex’ parents could see their son turn his eyes towards bigger cities, and different purposes.  
  • At the age of 30, the chance to join a travelling group finally emerged, and Vex left home sweet home. A small carnival troupe called Bazaar Avalon went through the towns, making its way towards the capital at some point. As there’s always room for another illusionist and Vex’ colorful exterior matched their look.

  • But the last two years, have been rough. The decree tightening the restriction on mages made their plans unsafe, and unease hung heavy in the air. Trying to avoid patrols of witchfinders while keeping ahead made Bazaar Avalon travel towards The sunless jungle instead of Faline. At this time, there’s no telling what will happen once they’ve stayed there, for too long.

Silvery shimmers of starligt swirl around you, as Vex' spots starts to glow. Memories which aren't completely yours, but feels like it. A hypnotizing pattern, gently pushing you towards calmness. Using his third eye, along with glowing patterns of light formed at his tails or coat, Vex is able to spin illusions, mess up memories and direct enchantments. When using powerful magic, the eye in the middle opens, and upon eye contact the magic is directed at a target. 

CURRENT LEVEL:

  • With his current power, Vex is able to:
    • Make non complicated illusions at up to five targets:
      • He can choose to use this ability at just one person, which would raise the level of details. 
    • Charm/hypnotize one person | 5 minutes. 
      • The charm enchantment wont work in very hostile environments, and makes the charmed person regard Vex as an friendly acquaintance.

  • future | Devoloping his illusions, hypnose and implanting memories. 
  • future | Vex can make illusions appear real, tricking pain/physical receptors. 



Costs

  • Ves illusions are considerably weaker in bright light, either magical or non magical. But more effective in darkness.
    • Bright sunligt, brigt lanterns, light by magic = time cap. 
    • Tvillight, nighttime, sharply drawn/dark shadows = time bonus. 
  • Vex illusions tend lingers in the corners of hos own eyes, if used for more than 6 minutes. 
    • Impaired vision/foggy vision, color-change in the area around him, moving figures etc. Tends to pass after double the amount of time used, or after napping.
  • Currently get headaches if used for more than +10 consecutive minutes. 

ADDOTIONAL SKILLS:

  • He occasionally dapples in music, but mostly silly, funny rhymes or quick two-liners.
  • Very adapt at making shiny blue butterflies, and other more prettt displays.

    • This cryptic text guides a mage through improving their natural telekinesis, beyond even what a Handmade Idol has already taught them; using this technique, a mage can hold very heavy items, wield multiple weapons at once, manipulate complex objects midair, and improve the range of their telekinesis by twice the length of their body.

    • This weathered page opens a mage's mind to the language of beasts. Using this enchantment, a mage can make themself understood to all animals. Animals will comprehend the mage's speech and commands, and the mage will be able to intuit the feelings and intentions of animals by sight.
