About

Yolanda grew up with a brother (Lenka) and two parents (mother and father). For as long as she can remember she's been fascinated with fire. She would collect candles and lighters, and always start small fire's with her brother after watching him do so before. Her parents never minded much, so long as she was careful and being watched around the fire, her dad would even show her some small tricks with it. It wasn't long before Yolanda discovered her ability to make fire through her fingers and was using the tiny flame to set small things aflame.
During one evening when Yolanda was supposed to be in bed, she decided to try practicing her ability in secret in her room and this resulted in something catching on fire. She did her best to try and put it out but it only seemed to spread further in the house. The fire resulted in the passing of her father.

After the death of her father, Yolanda's mother took her kids and moved to America for a 'fresh' new start. However unable to shake the thought of her husband, Yolanda's mother fell into a depressed state of denial. She soon became neglectful towards herself and her kids, and struggled to keep them in a functioning house they could afford. She couldn't live without her husband and took on bad habits to cope with his passing, this lead to them falling even further broke and Lenka having to get a job and help pay for shit. She constantly put the blame of him being gone onto Yolanda. Lenka was constantly having to step in and take care of the two, having to separate them from arguing and reassure Yolanda that it wasn't her fault he was gone. Yolanda grew to dislike her mother, and would always favor to being around Lenka. Despite Lenka's good intentions, he wasn't exactly the best role model though, and taught her to not give a fuck and bad coping mechanisms.
After a few years without her father and stressful home life, Yolanda soon pushed away his death all together to cope with it and move on, convincing herself of other reasons for him being gone. Lenka rolled with what Yolanda fell to start believing, and even fed into the lies telling her he just had to leave them.

As some more time passed on, Yolanda's mom fell further into addiction and Lenka eventually stopped trying so hard. Yolanda showed up at home less and less and spent more time getting into trouble to cope than facing her problems head on. She avoided her mother and began committing arson again, eventually leading to her getting in trouble with the law. After Lenka had to bail her out and lecture her about shit and not getting caught, they arrived home to find their mom take her last breath of addiction.

After the passing of her mother, Yolanda left to be on her own. Lenka didn't fight against her and just assured her she'd have a place to come back to if she so wanted, he gave her some cash and let her go. She spent about 4 months on the streets going from place to place before coming across a place she was comfortable at. During these times she experienced a lot of bad things, getting into more than a few fights and more trouble with the law. She thought about going back Lenka plenty of times, but never actually committed to it due to her own determination to be on her own. 

Leaving

After leaving her home Yolanda spent 4 months on the street, which looking bad doesn't sound as long as it felt. She experienced what felt like the longest times alone out there, but due to her own stubbornness she refused to go back home. The bit of money Lenka had given her was scarce, and went away a lot quicker than she hoped it would. To get by she found herself getting into theft and using fire to get what she needed. She learned not to get caught though. 

The streets caused Yolanda a lot of trouble, aside from it being colder and hard to find a place to stay, the people were harsh. She found her only source of coping and stress relief to be with fire, be it burning things or just watching it, it brought her ease. 

She grew a strong disliking towards men after a specific incident on the streets she tries to joke about now. Looking back she has an appreciation for what she went through, it's given her more of an appreciation for life and what she has now, it also helped shape who she is now. 

finding home 

Yolanda found the camp after going to a forest to burn shit and practice her abilities, after going far into the forest she was lead into what felt like a completely different place. After some exploring and being found by the counselors, Yolanda was given a bit of an explanation, though she mostly ignored it and just decided to stay because it seemed more welcoming than the town she was previously in. In the camp she was given a room to sleep and stay in, food, friends, a home. 

It didn't take her long to cause trouble and pester others, though in the long run it her carelessness and extroverted persona brought her close to quite a few others; Angel, Sophie, Rufus, Silas, and most importantly, Amanda, who Yolanda's recently started dating now.
