Bio

Like many Octolings, Arapaima was drafted into the Octarian army at a fairly young age. For whatever reason, she seemed naturally gifted at combat, taking fairly quickly to the Octoshot and many other weapons. They would earn their status as an Elite Octoling quickly, being part of a squadron that was able to keep Agent 3 at bay for much longer than expected, due to her squad having combat ability near equal to hers. Though Arapaima's squad wasn't able to stop Agent 3 entirely, the group realized how effective a team they were, and decided to work together for a while. It wasn't long after this that Agent 3 confronted D.J. Octavio, and the Squid Sisters' Calamari Inkantation would inspire many Octolings to defect from the Octarian army -- including Arapaima's fellow soldiers. Oddly enough, the heavenly melody didn't seem to inspire change in some Octolings as much as it did others, Arapaima belonging to the former group. Arapaima's partners tried to convince her to leave with them, but Arapaima was still loyal to what remained of the Octarians. The other Octolings would leave for the nearest subway station, and Arapaima would receive a message from one of them.

"We'll wait for you."

Alongside the location of the station they had went to. Arapaima wanted to respond telling them to just leave, but she couldn't bring herself to write anything. Even they had to admit that life in the Octarian army was only getting worse by the day due to the lack of power and the capture of DJ Octavio. Maybe there was something better out there for her, with people who seemed to actually care about her. They rushed to the station as fast as they could, not even sure what that future would be like, but confident that whatever it was, they'd face it as part of a team.

Arapaima would arrive at the station.

There would be no one there.

She would send messages to each of them.

There was no response.

Ultimately, she found herself alone.

And alone they would stay. Even after D.J. Octavio returned, and she was assigned to a new squad in Octo Canyon, she made no attempt to bond with them. After all, the only reason they were together was because they were soldiers. That alone couldn't be grounds for forming a bond, and Arapaima couldn't help but feel dumb for not realizing that sooner. She would be strong by herself, for herself. Little did she know, her old squad actually had intended to wait for her, but they were tricked and led into the Deepsea Metro by a certain Octoling, never to be seen again. As skilled as Arapaima was, the weakened remnants of the Octarian army couldn't stop Agent 4 reclaiming the Great Zapfish that Octavio once again tried to steal. Realizing there really was nothing for her with the Octarians, Arapaima decided that, even if it was alone, leaving likely was the best option. They would take a train to Splatsville, far away from Octo Canyon. They made little attempt to fully integrate into Inkling society, instead going straight into matches and earning tickets as fast as possible to get weapons they wanted, of which there were many. Now Arapaima continues to spend all her time participating in Anarchy Battles, scaring off other Inklings and Octolings with her intensity and ruthlessness.

Personality

Due to her time in the Octarian army, Arapaima is generally very stern and serious, but she's not afraid to speak her mind. She's also not above using her reputation to intimidate people. Arapaima typically prefers to keep to herself, even taking offensive positions by herself in matches. Despite this, she doesn't get too upset at bad teams. She fully understands that many Inklings and Octolings simply aren't on her level, and she even takes some pride in this fact. (Though she will still leave the team ASAP if she thinks they're hopeless.) Arapaima is highly competitive, only doing Turf Wars as practice, and even taking those very seriously. Otherwise, she focuses on Anarchy Battles -- her favorite being Rainmaker as she feels that's the mode where splatting opponents matters the most. Arapaima's aloof attitude and competitive focus also basically stunted her social growth. Even in the Octarian army, she only had fellow soldiers, not anyone she'd call a "friend." No one knows if she ever does anything not related to matches.

Trivia

  • As a coconut octopus, her tentacles have light blue accents in place of white
  • Prefers weapons that put her on the frontlines of team fights, or that let her flank behind enemy lines
  • She thinks the Splatana Wiper is miles better than the Splatana Stamper, and is very adamant about this.
  • She is aware that scary rumors are being spread about her, and is okay with this as the enemy team being intimidated gives her an advantage
  • This intimidation factor also prevents most people from attempting to get close to her. She doesn't mind.
  • The outside of her locker is covered in "#1 Overall Splatter" medals. She refuses to let anyone see the inside of her locker
  • Her favorite band is Turquoise October, but her least favorite song is Octoling Rendezvous
  • She knows Calamari Inkantation's melody, but can't remember what it's called or who the Squid Sisters are
  • Her favorite idol is Shiver
  • She knows of Marina's past role in the Octarian Army, and is somewhat inspired by how far she's come
  • She owns a custom Reefslider that can go much longer without exploding, but she's still figuring out how to make it actually turn
