ORIGIN

DlJ3ic9.png

"Far below, a lost soul calls out in sorrow and despair,"

Nyogtha began life as a little white octopus, she lived contentedly in the ocean as she hunted and explored through the coral reefs. Her world was shattered when a passing diver saw an opportunity to capture what they saw as an oddity, and she was promptly siezed out of her habitat and placed into a small aquarium tank.

Her tank contained nothing except two tiny plastic plants and a fake rock cave that was an irreverent mockery of her coral reef. The tank lights were never turned off and only added to her distress, as there was no escaping the blinding light. She refused to eat and the combination of stress, exhaustion, and starvation caused her health to quickly decline. Her creator Hayes found her thus, and her life as an esk began.

ABOUT

qnArIIW.png

"For tonight a tale of woe befalls this town of nowhere,
As a lost and broken child is reborn a nightmare."

Life as an esk is a bitter new reality for Nyogtha. She remembers feeling safe and content in the ocean, but now the underwater depths hold no solace for her as her new form strains and pulls with grasping fingers at her mind whenever she tries to flee the cities. Her body has been irrevocably changed as her agile arms have been lost, and she is now left with half the amount of limbs comprised of stubby, numb legs. They are useless for exploring her environment, she cannot wave them about, she cannot grasp with them, she cannot signal her feelings with them, and she can barely feel them. She has lost so many essential parts of herself.

Nyogtha is ever wallowing in her own misery and resentment; she cares little for the wellfare of others as she floats slowly through her village. Her great mass of hair covers her body, impeding her eyesight and insulating her from the world around her, and she struggles to feel any sort of connection to things outside of herself with her deadened senses. On her good days she wishes to simply be left alone, on her bad ones she wants those around her to share in her pain, and will lash out with magic at anything she finds near her.

The presence of humans will consistently bring out her vicious streak; she may not always remember the details of why, but she knows that their actions are ultimately responsible for her current state. She will drive them away from her by frightening them with thrown objects or pushing them with her telekinesis, and feels a rare spark of enjoyment at seeing them scuttle away from her in terror.

INTERACTIONS

Nyogtha rarely speaks to other esk, when her interest has been piqued enough to do so her voice sounds ominously deep and distorted. She is not one for long conversations and may simply leave once she no longer feels interested in the situation, regardless of whether the other esk is still speaking or not.

She is quite hard to read as her eyes may or may not be visible, and changes in her body language are hidden under her hair.

RELATIONSHIPS

Hayes 4543 - Her Creator. In a world devoid of warmth and comfort, Hayes is, perhaps, one of the brighter spots. She is often surrounded by other beings filled with cloying happiness, unfairly effervescent in their joy. But not Hayes. Hayes has spoken of his own sorrow and grating discomfort in this new existence they share. The song of Hayes' spirit is distorted, not exactly like her own perverseness but still wrong. And the knowledge that she is not alone brings a strange sort of stillness to her soul; not like the hush of a freezing night, but rather the soft lull of a gentle current.

On occasion Nyogtha will seek Hayes out and remain nearby in quiet contemplation. Her stay may be anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, for reasons known only to her. Other times, however, when the stuttering sparks of her soul grow into a roaring inferno, the placid quiet becomes offensive in its tranquility. Those are the days she roams far away, inflicting her own wretchedness on any who cross her path.
