About

Gin Shimizu (死水 銀 - Shimizu Gin) is a trainee doctor and the Ultimate Surgeon. She is a member of Hope's Peak Academy's New 45th Class and a participant in one of the Copycat Killing Games.

A strange girl, Gin is someone with a strong passion for medicine, and an even stronger fascination with the workings of the human body. Though she's only a student, Gin has a knowledge and medical skill that rivals many doctors around the country, and has an ability to complete surgeries that someone her age would not typically be able to.

Gin is 19 years old, Cisgender and a Lesbian. She uses exclusively She/Her Pronouns.

Appearance

Gin is a tall and slender woman with pale skin and good posture. She has dark, red-brown hair with sweeping bangs, styled into two buns of different sizes behind her head. Her hair is tied with pink-red ribbons which resemble the legs of an insect, which poke out of the sides of her hair buns. She has narrow green eyes, thin eyebrows, and wears a soft pink lipstick.

She wears the uniform of her former medical school, with a red dress with short, puffed sleeves and white trim, and a white folded collar. Over the top of the dress, she wears a white and pink apron with a large heart design on the front. On her head, she wears a white nursing cap, also decorated with a heart in the same colour as her dress. Her ears are pierced with a pair of small pink cross earrings. She also wears a pink-red choker, and white gloves.

Under the dress, Gin wears semi-opaque tights, and white buckled shoes with no high heels.

Gin has a kind of heart theme to her design. It's present on her cap, on her apron, and her buns form a bit of a heart-shape as well. Her sleeves are rounded as an attempt to subtley follow this theme as well. Her colours are also chosen intentionally - the red is chosen due to it's symbolising of blood and danger, though danganronpa blood is a different colour. Her eys are green due to the association of green with jealousy, though this is mostly a leftover from a previous version of her character. The ribbons in her hair were originally intended to resemble insect legs, trying to push the creepy feel to her.

["You want to learn about my past, do you? Hmm... Why don't you come to speak to me about that. Directly?"]

Before Hope's Peak Academy, Gin attended Asclepius Medical Academy, and did some placement studies in a hospital where Mikan Tsumiki, the former Ultimate Nurse, worked. At this school, she impressed her teachers and other doctors with her immense knowledge and skill in the medical field, especially for someone so young. Gin was put forward to Hope's Peak Academy directly by a link at the hospital she studied at, and she was accepted into the school's New 45th Class the following year. While at Hope's Peak, Gin found herself having to frequently treat wounds or other injuries on her classmates, due to several of them either being excessively clumsy or the type to frequently get into fights. Though Gin found being trusted with such small injuries demeaning, working with her classmates in such a way allowed her to build some trust with them, and allowed her to build some friendships even if they weren't particularly deep.

During the Killing Game

Gin arrived at the Hope's Peak Talent Development Resort the same way as the rest of her class did - that being, in a way that she doesn't remember. All that she remembers is that she woke up on a cold, hard desk in a room that seemed to be made specifically for her. She expressed interest in finding the nurse's office within the resort, but set that want aside after the killing game itself was revealed.

When introduced to Kiyomi Kurosawa, Gin immediately took an interest in her, intrigued by her ultimate talent. Gin would suggest that Kiyomi go into a career in medicine, using her skill in research to help create cures for diseases that seem incurable, which Kiyomi responded to with brief consideration. Gin is also friendly with Tamiko Akiyama, finding her clumsiness endearing and enjoying the conversations the two have together as she patches them up.

For most of her time in the killing game, Gin portrayed an image of calm even during investigations, leading some of her classmates to question how familiar she was with murder and death. Gin dismissed these questions by saying that, as a surgeon, she had grown used to blood and death, because doctors aren't able to save everyone as much as they try. Gin also conducts autopsies on the victims for her time in the game, aiding in the investigations as she is the only member of the class with the skills to do so.

Following the first class trial, Gin shows little sympathy to the killer, calling ██████ regret and fear "nothing more than a pathetic excuse for an unforgivable crime" She does, however, express a little sadness towards ████████ death, considering it an "unfortunate waste of life."

Mikan Tsumiki: (Former) Colleagues

Gin's Opinion of Them: Respects

Prior to the Copycat Killing Games, Gin did placement studies at the same hospital Mikan worked at. While the two didn't know each other particularly well, Gin knew Mikan as the former Ultimate Nurse, and partially idolised her as her predecessor. Gin had a lot of interest in Mikan's work for the Future Foundation, and often found herself frustrated at both Mikan and the Future Foundation's unwillingness to share their information.

At first, Gin was unaware of Mikan's past as a Remnant of Despair, due to the Future Foundation intentionally surpressing a lot of knowledge about the tragedy. Upon finding out about this history, Gin developed an interest in despair, and became interested in the tragedy, leading to her seeking out the small group within her former highschool and later Hope's Peak that would discuss the events and the actions of Junko Enoshima.

Tamiko Akiyama: Friends

Gin's Opinion of Them: Likes a Lot

Gin and Tamiko are good friends. As Tamiko is very clumsy, they have had to ask Gin's help with medical situations on more than one occasion. Tamiko has a crush on Gin, and though it's not explicitly clear whether or not Gin reciprocates, I often like to imagine them as a couple. They aren't a canon couple, but they are an out-of-story ship.
