We are cyberpunks. We risk our lives almost on the daily, in exchange for eddies. A life like ours is unpredictable, we could get zeroed any day, and any time we spend time with our loved ones could be the last. I do not want to waste any more time. I want to be with you. For real.
― Cel to Pilar

Cel is a fancharacter created for the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Characteristics

Cyberpunk_2077_header_bottom.svgCel is often described as a calm girl with a pretty face. She is a caring, motherly and kind-hearted woman, cold-blooded with her head on her shoulders. While not being a genius, Cel is relatively smart and almost always thinks before she acts. Due to her MaxTac training, she is an extremely skilled and qualified fighter with a lot of stamina and fast reactions, making her a great asset in battle. She is very serious during any gigs and doesn't take fighting lightly. She greately enjoys fighting and can sometimes get carried away and display a way more scary side of herself and a clear desire to hurt her opponent.

Cel loves having fun, and while being calm in most situations, she is shown to absolutely love dancing, drinking and partying. She has a great sense of humor and laugh a lot. Her language is not as crude as the other edgerunners' due to her corpo education, but she display an ability to swear and trash talk just as much as the others when she wants to. She also acts very protective of those who are younger than her, being both intimidating and motherly, especially to David. She displays a flawless and absolute loyalty to Pilar with who she share a very intense intimate relationship, revealing in the same time that she is just as much of a pervert as him. The two often call each other bad names in an affectionate way. She later admits being in love with him and never miss an opportunity to show him support, often bringing him food and forcing him to eat or to take a shower.

Biography

Cyberpunk_2077_header_bottom.svg
Early life
Cel, of her full name Celeste, is the daughter of a Corpo woman, Akako Sato and an Edgerunner man, Soul. She has a little sister named Lilith. When she was little, her mother left her father, choosing Arasaka over him, and decided to bring Cel with her as she was the oldest, in hope of making her a good corpo girl, destined to follow her. Cel grew up among corpos, but hated it. Wanting to avoid working for Arasaka with her mother at all costs, she decided to join the MaxTac, and became rather pretty good at her job. She was dating a man named Ryosuke Tanaka. When she reached her mid 20, she reconnected with her father and sister, from who she had been cut off for years. She finally felt like she was part of a family, unlike when she was with her mother. But it all changed when her father started to show signs of cyberpsychosis. He could not afford any treaments and therapy so he slowly got lost in it, until he had to be put down. The MaxTac was called, and Cel had to neutralize him. It's a huge trauma for her, and she starts to drown herself in more work and start to be very distant with everyone, especially her fiancé, Ryosuke. One night, as she decided to visit him, she finds him in bed with another woman, and as she asks him for an explanation, he proceed to gaslight her and tell her how it's her fault, that since her father death she had been neglecting him and not acting herself anymore. Ryosuke then tells her he is ready to "forgive her and give them another chance." Cel immediately breaks up and in the same time, quit the MaxTac.

Becoming an Edgerunner
After that, Lilith, who works as a solo in Maine's crew, encourage Cel to try Edgerunning. Indeed, her MaxTac skills could prove useful, and since she has no purpose in life anymore, she might as well give it a shot. Her experience growing up in Arasaka also revealed to be useful, Cel knowing how to blend among corpos. She then starts taking small gigs, which at first consist mostly into neutralizing cyberpsychos, then slowly proves herself to be a very good spy, collecting informations and selling them to fixers or other edgerunners. She is, some times later, contacted by Maine who heard good things about her from Lilith and Falco (who is dating Cel's sister) and tells her he wants to meet her. The night before, Cel went to a bar to celebrate, and this is when she meets Pilar. He sees her long hair and her figure, sitting at the bar and comes to her, starting to hit on her in a rather crude way. To his surprise, she doesn't tells him to fuck off and instead laugh at his jokes and they start to talk and drink together. He keeps hitting on her and she flirts back, until she asks him if his name "Pilar" comes from what he has between his legs. With a smirk, he tells her to find out, and both go to the "No Tell Motel" in Watson, Kabuki, where they hook up and spend the night together. She leaves on the morning, wanting to head home before meeting Maine and his crew. When arriving home, she tells her sister she spent the night with a man and that it was great, and that she didn't feel that amazing in years. When Lilith asks her the name of the man, Cel tells her it was "Pilar". Since she works with him and knows him and his ways, Lilith is not thrilled but keeps quiet about it.

Meanwhile, on the morning, Pilar keeps bragging to the crew about this super hot girl he got to spend the night with, nobody believing him. When Cel and Lilith arrive, she and Pilar immediately spot each other. There is a silence, before Cel greets him with a warm smile, confirming in the same time that Pilar was indeed telling the truth about them hooking up last night. After a conversation with Maine, they both agree to try to work together on their next gig. Cel turns out to be very serious and efficient, proving herself to be a valuable asset for the team, and Maine accepts to hire her full time in his crew. During the whole thing, Pilar keeps hitting on her, and when Kiwi and Lucy intended to help her by frying his brain, they are extremely surprised to see that Cel also keeps flirting back with him. At each gigs, each party, and each time spent together, it goes on with them always flirting and sleeping together.

Cel proves to be an extremely skilled and reliable member of the crew, her kind and gentle attitude allowing her to maintain good relationships with everyone. She sees Maine as her leader, and therefor as a blind and absolute trust in him, and would never hesitate following him. She gets very close to Dorio, the two of them growing a strong and trustful friendship. Dorio is often able to sense whenever something happens with Cel, and often manages to push her to talk about it. She was also the first one to notice her very evident growing crush on Pilar. The two woman often hang out and train together, sharing the same motherly energy, Dorio being the strong and buff one, while Cel is on the more gentle but intimidating side. Cel is also fairly close with Lucy, despite being a bit jealous of her at first due to Pilar constantly trying to hit on her. She quickly warms up to her when she sees that obviously, Lucy isn't interested at all. Lucy firsts ignores that Cel comes from Arasaka, but when she learns about it, she gets extremely cautious with her, not trusting her at all, this being reinforced by how easily Cel blends in with corpos and the time she spends among them to spy. Eventually, she realizes that, just like her, Cel despise them and is scared of them, and she slowly trusts her more. While Lucy keeps her kind of standoffish and cold attitude at first, and never reveals her past to her, Cel doesn't get driven away by it, and instead stays nice and soft with her. Lucy ends up warming up to Cel a bit more and develops a great friendship with her. She often tells her she is way too kind and gentle to be a cyberpunk, to what Cel answers that this is the only thing she can do anyway, and that being kind and caring is the least she can do towards people who have it hard too. Lucy also often tells her how much she doesn't understand why Cel is wasting her time with Pilar, opinion that is shared by Kiwi with who Cel has a less close relationship. When it comes to Rebecca, Cel acts a bit like a big sister, which at first really upsets her. Outside of not understanding why Cel would willingly spend time her brother and enjoy his company, Rebecca is also taken aback by Cel's gentle attitude. They eventually get closer, both accepting they are very different but that it doesn't mean they can't get on well. Rebecca ends up telling her that, even tho she thinks she is way too good for him, Cel better not break her brother's heart or she'll break her skull. Cel also has a rather cordial and friendly relationship with Falco since he is dating her sister Lilith, and therefor is her brother-in-law.

Pilar: the beginning of a new relationship
While their relationship is at first mostly physical, Pilar and Cel quickly grow attached and infatuated in one another, developing a deeper and more serious emotional connection, but neither of them ever saying it or thinking about it. Lilith, not wanting Pilar to hurt her sister, threaten him, telling him that if he does anything that hurts her, she will make sure he'll never be able to get a boner ever again in his life, even with the best chrome. At first, Pilar still kept to try to hit on Lucy, groping her and trying to get in her pants, as his perverted self, which greatly displeases to Cel who is jealous but never says it. Everytimes of course, Lucy fries his brain and tells him to fuck off, and he comes back to hit on and flirt with Cel. Feeling upset about being second choice every time, she eventually tells him to fuck off as well at multiple occasions. This very often get resolved with Cel telling him he is just a jerk and a gonk, and him poorly "apologizing", leading to them hooking up once more.

Pilar eventually stops creeping on Lucy, being only interested and focused on Cel, never leaving her side, always having one of his long arm around her shoulders. They always act like a couple, Pilar even getting pissed at other guy annoying or disrespecting Cel, saying that no fuckers can disrespect his woman that way. Even if it is obvious for everyone that they are a thing, none of them seem to admit it. They keep having this ambiguous and "dating but not quite" relationship for a while, being considered as a couple by everyone else, acting possessive towards one another, but never putting actual words on it. One evening, as she was hanging out with Rebecca, Cel goes as far as admitting to her that she has feelings for her brother.

One day, after a particularly stressful and dangerous mission in West Wind Estate in Pacifica, Cel gets hit by the sudden realization that, due to their Edgerunners condition, they both could die any day, and that their life expectancy is highly reduced. She takes Pilar on the side, telling him they need to talk, and he reluctantly accepts, being a bit apprehensive of what she would like to talk about, scared she came to the realization he was a gonk and didn't want to associate with him anymore. The two of them isolate themselves on the shore, where they could see the sun rising on the sea. With a very serious expression, she then proceed to tell him that she does not know how much they have left, and that she doesn't want to lose anymore time playing silly games with him. She tells him she wants to be with him and have a real and official romantic relationship with him, not confessing her love, but admitting that she greatly cares about him and hinting that she does have feelings for him. Pilar is relieved, and accepts to be officially with her, also admitting that he greatly cares about her as well. The two of them start officially dating from this point, finally labeling each other "girlfriend" and "boyfriend" and being in an exclusive romantic relationship.

Maternal instincts
Cel is rather good in battle, being a serious fighter, but she can sometimes get carried away en reveal a way more scary side of a personality by displaying a way more sadistic way of killing her enemies while laughing hysterically. Outside of this, she shows to be an extremely caring person, calm and cold-headed, kind, motherly, with a great sense of humor, and who loves to party, especially to dance. When David Martinez arrives, Cel becomes protective of him, due to him being the youngest. She offers to help in training him to be faster and hit better, using her former MaxTac training to teach him a trick or two. David is at first intimidated by her, but they quickly get on pretty well, even tho David does NOT understand what a girl like her does with someones like Pilar.

The first time Cel met David, it was in the NCART monorail train, she was standing in front of him and as their eyes met, she gave him what she though was a gentle and polite smile, but that ended up being intimidating for David. Cel being way taller than him, it only added to her intimidating aura. She was not aware that Maine had accepted him to be in the team, if she had been there while he confronted him about the Sandevistan at Lucy's appartement, she would have opposed to him joining the crew since he was just a kid. Once David arrived at the Team meeting place, he started talking about this pretty but kind of scary tall woman he was in the monorail train, unaware that she was a member of the crew and Pilar's girlfriend. Cel arrives a few moments later, and notice David, greeting him and asking him who he is and what he was doing here. Pilar starts to explain to her that he is the new kid Maine just accepted to recruit, and Cel immediately frowns, saying she had not been made aware of it. She confronts Maine about it, and gets into an argument with him, saying that she usually blindly trust and respect all his decisions as a leader, but that she can't agree to David joining the crew, saying he is way too young, that this is way too dangerous for a kid and that he has his whole life ahead of him. Maine explains his decision and David's skill with the Sandy, telling her she doesn't have her word to say in this and that she'd better accept it and get used to him. Cel has no choice but to reluctantly obey. Due to her not quite accepting him in the team, David doesn't warm up to her and has troubles trusting her, thinking she doesn't trust in his abilities, not being aware she is just worried for him.

Cel then starts watching after him, and acting protective of him, always trying to make sure he is safe. David doesn't like that, taking it as her underestimating him. After a mission a few weeks later, David decides to confront her about it, and Cel accepts to talk with him. While everyone is partying and drinking, Cel and David go to sit a little bit further from the noise and start talking. David asks her why she underestimates him like this and Cel explains to him she doesn't underestimate him at all, but that she is just worried for his safety, that she doesn't understand why he is here when he has his entire life to live. David then proceeds to explain her where he is coming from, and why he is doing all that and why he wants to be a cyberpunk. Cel and David starts to understand each other better, David eventually warming up to her, and Cel trusting more in his strength and ability to protect himself.

The two of them share a warm relationship, David not being bothered by Cel acting maternal with him anymore, and Cel supporting and caring for him the best she could. Cel often trains him to fight and use his Sandevistan with more efficency, using her past MaxTac experience and teaching him everything she knows. They often share their worries together, David having less troubles opening up to her, especially with Lucy. Cel often encourages him to go towards her and not get discouraged by her cold demeanor, that this is just a mask she is wearing to protect herself. She even learns later that Pilar does the same, purposefully groping Lucy and hitting on her in front of David to make him jealous, and force him to "grow a pair and make a move on her". Cel, being rather good friend with Lucy, often enjoys dancing "closely" with her in front of David, glancing at him regularly to check if he is watching and eventually push him to make a move.

Being in love with an Edgerunner
While walking around in Watson, the crew comes across a man pissing in a barrel, that Pilar starts to harass for being in their terf. The man is unresponsive and keeps mumbling things to himself. Being a former MaxTac member, she is good at spotting cyberpsychos, and she manages to understand that this man Pilar was bothering, was one. She jumps and pushes him out of the way, a fraction of seconds before the cyberpsycho shots. Pilar is not killed but instead simply injured. During the battle, Cel finds herself to be completely paralysed, not able to move one inch away from him, her whole body gripping his so tightly, her arms not letting go of him, as David and Maine manage to kill the guy. Once the battle is over, as Pilar barely realise what would have happened to him, Cel slowly let go of him and rise her arm, then slaps him with an incredible strength. She then slaps him again and again, and starts yelling at him and crying as she punches on his chest, showing emotions that none of the crew were used to see. She then process to tell him she could have lost him, that he is a gonk who is going to die a stupid and shameful death, and asks how he could be so stupid when she loves him so much.

This is the first time she loudly admit her feelings to him (and to everyone else, outside of Rebecca and Lilith who already knew). Pilar stays dumbfounded just like the rest of the crew. As David takes Lucy to the Ripperdoc, Cel brings Pilar to another one to get his wound checked on, the rest of the crew awkwardly walking away as well. As the two are walking together, Pilar asks her if she really meant what she said back there, to what Cel replies that she did. He tells her that's the stupidest decision she may has ever taken in her life, because a girl like her doesn't have anything to do with a guy like him. Cel looks away with a sad smiles, telling him that she doesn't understand what he means, but that it's okay if he doesn't love her back. After a few seconds of silence, Pilar tells her that only gonks wouldn't love her back, and that he is not a gonk. After being healed, this time, they head back to Cel's place instead of the Motel, where they spend the night together in a way more languid and loving way than usual, fully professing their love for each other all night long. Lilith even accepts him as her "dearest brother-in-law".
