Cray is the boss of the Peninksula Investigators, and the (Co-)Captain of the SNSS, formerly Agent 5.

Before all that he started off simply as Callie's younger brother. The two got along well, but Callie was always closer with their cousin Marie. Even his grandfather seemed to prefer the pair. Then they left Calamari County and became the Squid Sisters. Even his grandfather left for reasons he didn't disclose. Cray remained close with Callie over the distance, but he couldn't help but feel jealous and a bit bitter.

When he became a teenager he also left for Inkopolis, he briefly joined a band, having a talent for singing like his relatives, but it was just a side gig. His main job was as an employee of iShipIt, delivering items to customers.

On a particularly remote route, he met a stranger. She was an Octoling, a species he had been warned about all his life, and yet he simply handed her the package, made some small talk and left.

But what he thought was a one time interaction became almost weekly as she ordered more and more. The two ended up becoming friends and would meet outside of his work hours too. He learnt her name was Nixie and she wanted to live on the surface, but couldn't so she simply ordered surface items to help with her longing. After that he began to bring her gifts of his own.

One day at work he got a surprise visitor, though she was heavily disguised he recognised her immediately. He was proud of her for having the courage to leave the underground but upon finding she had no place to go, he offered his apartment.

They went from roommates to dating pretty quickly after that.

When he became an adult he was told by Callie that her and Marie would be heading to Calamari County and he agreed to meet them there, having not seen her in person in a long while. But when he arrived it was only Marie, who promptly left when news of the Great Zapfish going missing reached them.

He recieved weird contacts from Callie before they abruptly stopped and he decided to ask his grandfather, accidentally stumbling across the NSS in the process.

Craig, away from the NSS with Agent 3 and a bit on edge about an agent/his granddaughter going missing, decided to form the SNSS as a backup, dubbing Cray Agent 5 and asking him to run this second splatoon. Cray agreed.

Cray took his role very seriously, even after Callie was recovered. He took up fighting petty crime, eventually turning to the job of an investigator. He made his girlfriend Agent 6 and they formed an investigation agency.

The Inkopolis police weren't too happy with these freelancers, so they moved to the brand new Nautilus Isle to run their new agency and secretly, the SNSS.

Craig was impressed with his progress (when he remembered the SNSS existed) and promoted him to Co-Captain for his efforts. Outside of this though, the SNSS isn't very well known and hasn't seen a major crime in a long while.

Appearance
Cray is a tall inkling with light skin and golden eyes with star-like pupils. He has short black tentacles with silver ends and a sideswept fringe. He wears a plain white collared shirt with a red tie and black suspenders that hold up black suit pants underneath a large gray trenchcoat. He has neat leather shoes, and a gray fedora with a black ribbon. He wears an abundance of jewelry, namely golden rings and a single golden earring.
