About

Arrogant - Paranoid - Diligent - Isolated

Achilles is 27 years old and already classifies as a washed-up actor - he's high-strung with a serious temper problem and a superiority complex. Coming from an average, middle-class family, his pretentious parents strived for more and pushed him to become a child actor. Barely having turned 5, Achilles genuinely enjoyed his first few mediocre roles in advertising as the cute blonde kid with the accent. Apart from his sweet looks, Achilles was a bright, sharp child who had excellent manners, looked a little older than he was, and loved the camera - he soon graduated to background roles in indie films and, with a little encouragement around his 7th birthday, began to play main child roles. His parents were overjoyed at this development. They still pushed him to prioritise his schoolwork, but he loved acting so much that it was becoming more difficult to balance. He remembers thinking that he never really had time to spend with his mum and dad anymore in between catching up with schoolwork, scouting and tryouts. In the October of 2004, Achilles got his big break; he played one of the two main characters alongside America's current obsession, Drake Jett - an A-list actor who had recently soared onto the Hollywood scene. The 2004 film was an overwhelming success. It firmly cemented Drake Jett as a household name whilst also making Achilles into a fully-fledged child-star; the whole cast were interviewed countless times and invited to every premiere, screening, film event and autograph signing imaginable. It made everyone involved a hell of a lot of money. The film was immediately signed as a triolgy, with so much anticipation from the public that Achilles' parents had to sign a non-disclosure agreement two months in that made sure nothing would be leaked. And they were beyond proud of him. Sadly, this was his biggest acting success, and despite Hollywood raving about his promising future career, it never truly took off. If Achilles was being completely honest with himself (which is very rare), he would admit that his favourite part of 2004 was working alongside Drake, who he thought was the coolest person alive - they got to hang out a lot during filming, especially during the breaks, and he always bought him ice cream, made sure he was looked after and told the mean stage manager to piss off when Achilles was overwhelmed. Looking back, Drake was like an older brother that he never had. He will always be grateful to the man for choosing to spend his breaktime making him laugh instead of getting tipsy with the other actors at the bar - especially since he was the only kid on set. Everything else was a bit of a blur. By the time he turned 8, less than a month after the film released, his whole life had changed forever. Everything he did was under the adoring (yet watchful) eye of the public, and the pressure to do even more was beginning to build.

By 2024, almost 20 years later, it's not a surprise that Achilles is exceptionally goal-driven and arrogant. He's absolutely ruthless when it comes to his own body image, and has a gruelling work-out schedule which he sticks to intensely. The man is still clinging desperately to the hope that he will make a new name for himself in acting and not be stuck as the 'Golden Boy from that 2004 classic' for the rest of his life. Currently working in marketing and fucking hates it - and his co-workers hate him back, since he's always rude to them. His paranoia, isolation and fear of failure are the perfect recipe for disaster; but it seems like Richie Wilson, the scruffy, charming, laid-back hippie who angers him so much could end up being his saviour. Achilles enjoyed playing the hero by giving Richie a place to stay (so he wasn't sleeping in his fucking car), but the pair seem to be getting closer as the months go by. As long as Richie doesn't let Achilles walk all over him...

Richie. That stinky man!

This greatly angers Achilles. Both the man himself and the simple fact that he has a soft spot for him. By all accounts, he should continue to look down on him... shouldn't he? It's not like he makes him feel like a real person again... or anything like that.

Acting

Sadly he does not get cast very often; in his teenage years, he was advised to turn down offers that were 'beneath him', thus leaving only very high ranking roles. As he turned 20, he began to realise that the approach may have isolated him from so many new and upcoming directors who would have gone on to do great things. Yet another thing he used to love being added to the resentment pile.

Feeling like his work is appreciated

Achilles is not a good person, morality-wise. He does not give less of a shit about the opinions of people he deems 'lower' in the ranks than him. What he DOES desperately want is approval from his idols and from the people he looks up to - it's what he seems to live for. This does extend further than acting too; he likes to hear it when he's giving Richie a good time. Verbally or written in a nice appreciation letter, he's not fussy. It was good though, right?

Personal attention

The rush of stepping outside at ages 8 through 14 and having fans clamouring to talk to him, like some kind of teen heartthrob - is something he will never forget. He feels as if the older he gets, the less people give a shit about him. Definitely brought on by being a child star. Perhaps that's another reason he likes Richie's company though - the man won't take his eyes off Achilles. He tried to convice himself to hate it, but he gave up on that very soon. He likes Richie. And he likes having his full, undivided attention.

Dislikes

Teamwork.

Fuck. Could there be anything worse than having to share the limelight with a group of unprofessional dickbags who can't stand him? He hates them too. They just wouldn't get it. He hopes they jump in the bog immediately.

Being looked down on for being a child actor

A lot of people in the industry used the excuse 'we don't actually have proof that you can still act - you must be very different now than you were in 2004'. Achilles is excellent at judging people around him, but can't take criticism himself, so he often reacts with anger as a defense mechanism. People in higher positions than him, in the industry, will sometimes share this mindset too; being a child actor doesn't qualify unless you also have bigger roles as an adult, they usually just cast kids based on looks. It makes Achilles furious, but since it's coming from a professional, he commits it to memory.

Having his whole early life publicised

The media were frantic to get their hands on any sordid scrap of information about the stars of 2004. Drake was routinely having his tragic orphan backstory resurfaced, which then morphed into a good helping of 'you abuse substances', followed up by 'you abuse your girlfriend'. Achilles was lucky to be a child in that regard, but he still resents the highly invasive family life, money troubles and 'do you have a girlfriend' questions that plagued him as young as 8 years old. His least favourite were interviewers who blatantly said 'you should meet my daughter, she's the same age as you, you'd get along so well'. It was weird and he never quite knew what to say in response.

His chronic migraines and mild OCD

Achilles may have brought the migraines on by himself, but the OCD was present even in early childhood. The latter is only mild, but he finds it worsens if he's having a bad migraine episode. He's well aware that these things make him less desirable as an actor, so he refuses to mention it to any medical staff and never writes it in the agreement. A bad episode will end up making him extremely irritable and even more prone to arguments than before (joy to his co-workers in his office job).

Extra

Works out religiously

His physique is VERY important to him. He can't stand the thought of getting older, so he tries to keep his body in perfect condition. It also serves as a stress-reliever and a way to disipline himself. He takes out a lot of frustrations this way, whether the anger is aimed at other people or at himself.

Isolates himself

Achilles is very private. He never had many friends from school, since he was pulled out of class for months at a time - now he's older, people find him too insufferable to be around any longer than strictly necessary. Whilst he has the ability to be wonderfully kind and charming, this persona is reserved for people he deems worthy of it; his co-workers do not qualify and have therefore seen the ugliest sides of him. It doesn't help that everything he does is fuelled by ambition, not a desire to befriend people. He likes to say the isolation is his idea and that he wants to focus on his career. Deep down he's painfully lonely but knows he'll just hurt the people he gets close to.

Goal-driven and arrogant to the point of becoming spiteful to co-workers

Achilles' superiority complex is vast and permeates a lot of his outward persona. He'll actively step on his co-workers if it means he climbs up the ranks himself. It's what he was taught in his earliest days of acting; the only person who advised against it was Drake Jett, who tried to ensure that Achilles stayed true to himself. Sometimes he looks back at his conversations with Drake and wonders if he was only nice to him, or if he was just one-in-a-million who treated everyone he met with the same care.

Unchecked mental illness that later leads him to spiral

At the peak of his arc, Achilles has an explosive breakdown (shocker) that both humbles him and turns his life upside-down. He's gone through some very mentally challenging periods in his life, been manic, been elated and believing he was a god - and lows to the point of contemplating sucicide. His final failed attempt is a catalyst and gets it into his mind that he does actually want to keep living now that he has Richie, who is the love of his life and his grounding presence. He doesn't want to leave Richie alone, he wants to help him get through his own mental battles. The final attempt is also the final push to force him to seek professional help for his issues. He starts to get better after this.

Relationships

Richie Wilson

Acquaintance / FWB

Achilles tries to keep Richie at arms length. The pair met at one of Stevie Klondike's many charity events, where Achilles was invited to help raise money by signing autographs; Richie however, was not invited at all. His peaceful anti-war protest was perfect for the stage and really needed to be shared with all these lovely charity-goers. Consequently, Stevie spent the better part of the event trying to calm the crowd, running around sorting reimbursement and banishing Richie to the back room to think upon his sins. It was here that Achilles made his appearance, fuelled with hatred and ready to destroy the man who threw off his scheduled signing time - which, might he add, was for CHARITY. He was not happy to meet Richie, the whole exchange left a sour taste in his mouth - but not much more. However, the second time that Richie crashed Stevie's charity event, things were not so nice. After an already stern talking to from Jamie, Stevie, Dom and Elliott, Richie was dragged outside by Achilles who promptly decked him. Richie's laid-back, loving nature wasn't lost on Achilles however, and he found himself thinking about the stinky hippie with the piercing blue eyes a little more than he would have liked to. Fast-forward a couple of months, and the flat that Achilles was renting from Stevie started to have problems. Luckily, Achilles' anger was redirected from his landlord when a handyman was called. A friend of Stevie's could be over and fix it for, like, no charge! He wasn't a professional but Stevie wasn't sure how else to deal with his wrath at 2:00am. Even luckier for Ace, the handyman who turned up at the door was Richie. After the initial blind rage which Richie somehow managed to deal with, he fixed his lights for him. The heating, however, did not want to co-operate. The tired talk about how cold it was outside made him think. Knowing full-well that Richie was going to go back to his beat-up car to sleep since he 'didn't have a place at the moment', Achilles' pride began to wear thin. Neither of them had a nice warm bed, so he caved and invited the activist to stay a night. Over time, he realised he liked having him around. What was originally a pity and a tolerance for Richie became a saviour complex - which very quickly changed to genuinely missing him when he worked. Richie's grounding presence was something he desperately needed to balance out his paranoia and tendency to overwork himself; and Achilles' smarts and realistic nature helped Richie to understand and organise his own jumbled thoughts better. Achilles is still attempting to keep him at arms length, but it's getting harder every day - the ever-growing fondness for Richie is slowly softening him.

Stevie Klondike

Business Partner / Friend?

Stevie Klondike is his business partner, and his landlord. He's also a friend. Achilles often helps him run a lot of his events on the marketing side, and he's able to generate more interest by selling autographs and the occasional photo-op. All the money made from Stevie's fundraisers exclusively goes to charity. Despite his original distate towards working the marketing side of things, Stevie is one of the few people that Achilles actually enjoys working with. He thinks he's calm and fairly practical with a great sense of humour to match. He also happens to be the reason that Achilles met Richie, who decided to create a peaceful protest on the grounds that they happened to be raising money for soldiers that time.

Drake Blanc-Orlov

Past Friend / Co-Star

Achilles worked with Drake in the 2004 blockbuster hit. He looked after Achilles and hung out with him during the breaks when no one else wanted to deal with a kid. Achilles remembers his time with Drake very fondly, missing him greatly when the constant interviews and screenings were finally over. They had two more films in the trilogy together, which were successful in their own rights but never matched the insane heights of the original film. Drake always seemed happy to see him after filming 2004, but he was a fully established A-lister by that point and it wasn't as if they could just meet up to chat about life. (Even if they had, people would immediately start speculating about a fourth movie coming out, which would be terrible press for everyone involved). Drake treated him with so much respect, even though he was only 8 years old, and made sure he was comfortable at every turn, on each film, on each set. He was there for him way more than his own parents could ever claim to be. Achilles still misses him a lot - he thinks of him as an older brother sometimes, and then promptly gets very embarrassed by the thought. When he googles his name, he always hopes for the best.
