About

Lorelei is a shy girl, kind and sensible. Although she looks like a halfling, she is thinner than most other hobbits and she doesn't have the same appetite as all other halflings. She is not interested in the second or third breakfast or the many snacks that all the other hobbits do. She also has less hair on her feet, although these are almost as large as those of other hobbits. In addition to this, she has serious vision problems (which is unusual for a hobbit, but not uncommon for a human) and therefore she must always wear a pair of glasses, because otherwise she would see the whole world around her completely out of focus. Nobody knows why Lorelei's eyesight is so ruined. She seems to have been like this since her birth and she remembers having started wearing glasses ever since she was a child. She never understood why, but because of these peculiarities of her, she always felt a little different from other hobbits. Even though she looks a little different from normal hobbits, Lorelei still gets along very well with both the hobbits of the Shire and the humans of Bree. She likes to read and when she can she goes to the county markets looking for books to buy and read. She also loves to draw or scribble in her diary which she almost never leaves. Lorelei is an orphan. No one knows who her parents are and everyone, also in the Shire, tries to avoid opening up about this. She is been adopted by a human family from Bree that found her when she was only a newborn. Her adoptive parents run a tavern/inn and when Lorelei grew up she started helping them with the tavern chores, and she became a good waitress, even if she is always quite shy and a bit awkward towards customers, especially those she never seen before. She doesn't like strangers and she tends to withdraw when she meets one. She speaks only the necessary and never gives too much confidence to the patrons of the tavern. However, when she is doing her job as a waitress, she always maintains a polite way of speaking and behaving. Lorelei never took the last name of the human family that adopted her. Instead everyone gave her the last name "Chestnut" because of her dark hair and because she was found under a chestnut tree.
