"Don't worry about me, I'm fine... STOP LOOKING AT ME WITH COMPASSION CALLISTO I PULL OUT A KNIFE"

Dexter is Alastair's uncle. He is a man with a rich criminal past who is trying to improve. Dexter is hot-tempered and aggressive, he doesn't understand people's hints and kindness towards him well, so he can react badly. But despite his bad character, Dexter loves his loved ones very much and takes care of them.

Early years

Dexter was born in the thirties in the UK. His father died early, so he doesn't remember him. He grew up with his mother and older brother Darwin. From an early age, Dexter was marked by excessive restlessness, inattention and a penchant for hooliganism. On his very first day at school, he was punished for pushing a classmate into a puddle.

The first manifestations of the disorder

The first signs of kleptomania to Dexter appeared at the age of 9-10 years, when he himself, without noticing it, took small things that his classmates left on the desks. Often the owners of these things did not betray the loss, but one day Dexter stole the teacher's necklace, which she left on the table in the classroom. Dexter's mother was called to the principal. After this incident, Dexter noticed that his mother treats him completely differently than his older brother.

Dexter was always held up as an example of Darwin, as he was an excellent student and well-mannered guy, but this only infuriated Dexter. Darwin was sympathetic to his younger brother, hoping that this was just his attempt to attract attention to himself and it would pass with age. But it didn't go away.

Over the years, Dexter's kleptomania got worse and he first went to jail at 17, when he stole someone else's expensive car and tried to remake it in his garage. He ended up in jail for three years.

First term in prison

While in prison, Dexter wrote letters to his family about his life and was sincerely interested in their affairs, but only Darwin answered him. The mother ignored all her son's letters, even congratulations on the holidays and her birthdays. She also didn't write anything back to him herself. She wasn't on any of the dates Darwin arranged, so they were always just the two of them with Dexter. Darwin could not explain why their mother was reacting this way.

Returning home at the age of 21, Dexter learned that his mother had publicly disowned him. Several times he heard from acquaintances that his mother said that he was missing. Asking her for an explanation, the woman only complained that she was ashamed to have such a son and that he was a disgrace to his respected late father, bearing his last name. This hurt Dexter very much, but he did not swear at her. He decided to change and not do anything illegal anymore, but he gave up after four years, committing another major theft. When his mother saw the new subpoena, her heart gave out and she died a few days later without waiting to appear in the courtroom.

Second term in prison

Dexter ended up in jail again, but this time for a longer time. His mother died and his brother was no longer condescending with him, so Dexter stopped trying to be decent. He spent his time in prison as he pleased. He found several friends there, with whom he crossed paths at various times and after prison, and also earned prestige and a reputation as the most dexterous among the prisoners of the local prison.

Standstill

After serving his second term, Dexter returned home to find that his brother was terminally ill. He died very soon, and Dexter again had to pull himself together to start looking after his brother's son, Alastair. Despite the fact that he was 21 at the time, he was a rather insecure guy and Dexter took it upon himself to keep an eye on him. Before that, they rarely talked, as they only saw each other in those years when Dexter was not in prison, but they began to relate to each other better when they moved to France. It was Alastair's suggestion, so he hoped to distract his uncle. And so it happened, Dexter again for a while forgot about theft and got a job. For several years he worked in different places, as he had no education outside of school. He managed to meet his nephew's girlfriend a few days before he committed the crime again.

Acquaintance with Irving

This time he did it with his friend, who killed a man during a robbery. The murder was going to be pinned on Dexter too, but this time he had a more experienced lawyer than the previous times he was tried. It was Irving. He helped not only to get the murder charge cleared from Dexter, but also to reduce the term, despite the fact that this was the second relapse.

During the investigation, Dexter got into a conversation with Irving and, taking a phone number, began to call while in prison. Irving didn't like it very much, but he did it out of courtesy, as the calls were infrequent. After completing his third term, Dexter met with Irving and tried to establish friendly relations with him. It seemed to Irving that this was just an attempt to ingratiate himself so that in the future he could refuse another crime.

But in the course of communication, they developed feelings for each other, which they both initially hid. However, before the moment when Dexter was back in prison, they were already in a relationship.

Relationship with Irving

Irving often visited Dexter and talked to him in the meeting room, pretending that it was a simple work conversation. Dexter gave Irving some homemade things made in prison.

After that, Dexter ended up in prison for several years much more often than before. It seemed as if something was urging him to come back and see Irving again. One day, after Dexter was released from prison again, Irving told him that he did not want him to go to jail anymore and Dexter promised to improve. But he again could not restrain himself and eventually committed the crime again.

Breakdown with Irving

Before the trial began, Dexter waited for Irving. He left the other courtroom and Dexter thought that now he would go to him, but Irving said that he would no longer deal with Dexter's cases and transferred them to another lawyer. Dexter tried to talk him into going with him, but Irving wasn't about to change his mind, as he decided he was fed up.

This was Dexter's last term, which he spent quite bleakly, unlike the previous ones. He was very short-tempered towards his cellmates and friends, but did everything to get out early and return to the family with whom he had not spent time in recent years.

Atroceville

Dexter stayed in Atroceville with his nephew's family. He tried to find something to do in the new city, but most of the time he spends at home or socializing with other old people in the club. Sometimes he throws knives. While the kleptomania hasn't gone away, Dexter's transgressions are generally treated with indulgence in Atroceville, as Alastair always negotiates with those who have been harmed by their uncle, returning things or refunding their amount.

FACTS:

-He does not have a little finger piece on his left hand. This is due to the fact that he stole something from a serious person in prison and he wanted to deal with him by cutting off his hand, but took pity and cut off only his finger.

-Dexter lost an eye in a fight with a man he inflicted severe injuries on, but he was not convicted for it.

-Dexter also has a scar on his cheek and lips on the right side from a fight. During it, he also lost several teeth and they were replaced with gold dentures.

-Irving paid for Dexter's dentures, as in prison no one would have taken care of providing him with dental services and he would have received a serious infection.

-In prison, he made a wooden figurine of two cats together and gave it to Irving. It was a kind of declaration of love and a wedding. Irving still keeps this figurine.

-Dexter is afraid to show any emotions that can show him as a weak person, so even when he is very hard, he laughs stupidly.

-He enjoys the music that Casey enjoys and is more supportive of her than her parents.

-He has the name "Irving" tattooed on his chest.
