odile never smiles. you'll notice that about her after you've moved on from the way her costumes glitter, the unusual gold skate blades, the contortion of her spine. once you're done being impressed you notice how flatly she watches her competition. how even when she accepts her gold medal, there's nothing behind those eyes except the sparkle of the ice.

odile isn't her parents' only child but she might as well be. of course she was always their critical darling, their gold medalist athlete sweetheart. their prize possession. and her siblings tried (her sister tried with a 4.0 gpa, her brother tried with violin lessions and any other classical instrument he could get his hands on), but odile never loses. odile glides onto the ice and practices until there are open wounds on her paws and then she goes to her ballet lessons and strikes the choreography in perfect measures. and even when pain roots in her heels and shoots all the way up her back she'll still skate and dance and win and you'll never see her grimace. odile doesn't lose.

her face is always set in this grim aloofness, except for when she's got you pinned on her back and her gold skate blade is against your throat- then she's got her eyes narrowed and her mouth set in a scowl that you'll never get out of your head; the bared teeth you remember right as you go to jump and you remember the sharp edges of the whole situation and you miss it; whether it's on purpose or not is another story. and then odile will go out after you and do the most gorgeous skate you've ever seen. and you'll never tell anyone about what happened because next time it might not be the blade, it might not be just a slight imprint left in your fur.
