He seems like a stoic, no-nonsense kind of guy, but he’s mostly just really good at compartmentalizing when to be serious and when to go all out. He believes in music as an experience for both performer and listener and despises people who forgo their humanity in looking to achieve ‘perfection’ in music, when there is no such thing. It’s all jazz. If you make a mistake, just call it jazz.
Raised by his grandparents, he was brought up to have an appreciation for old-timey jazz records. Having been in choir since a young age, he’d always known how to use his voice. His grandfather taught him guitar, and he started playing saxophone in his high school jazz band. Around that same time, he was scouted by an idol agency. Although it came a bit out of left field for him, he decided to give it a shot anyways, even going to Japan to compete in an idol survival show. Issues with his health (and, well, his leg getting amputated) cut his idol journey short, however, and he returned to Korea.
Years later, he returns to Japan to study in music school, at which point he meets Yuzuru for the first time.
