Regardless of their origins, virispree and wilderspree are both born from plants. Virispree sprout from the ground and are carefully nurtured and watched over by the elders until they’re mature enough to be harvested. Wilderspree grow on trees and naturally fall from their branches when they’ve reached the appropriate level of maturity.

Virispree

These diminutive creatures stand at no more than 3 feet tall. They have 3 fingers and a thumb on their hands and three toed feet. Skin is either green or brown and gradients are common. They inhabit the flatlands and rivers of Dwam.

All virispree have a leaf sprouting from the top of their head. Elders are designated by additional leaf growths. Leaves are indicative of the type of plant they grew from. Most virispree come from fruit and flowering plants

They like to wear clothing but don’t wear shoes as they like to feel the ground beneath their feet.

Virispree have three genders: male, female, and genderless.

They can interbreed with wilderspree but the resulting offspring are most often virispree rather than wilderspree.

They need to spend as much time as they can in the sun and are most active during the daylight hours.* They absorb most of the nutrients they need through the leaves on their heads. They don’t have teeth so their food options are limited. They enjoy soft fruit and require lots of water.

*There are rare exceptions for virispree that sprouted from night blooming plants. These ones don’t tend to live with larger virispree communities and either form smaller, splinter groups or live with speerites. A very few have been welcomed into small wilderspree communes.

Wilderspree

These are cousins of the virispree, but come into existence differently. They inhabit the wooded areas and lakelands of Dwam largely due to their nature.

They’re a little taller than their cousins and lack any kind of distinct digits on their hands and feet. Their arms are vine-like and can wrap around things as a means of grabbing.

Instead of leaves they have a single flower sprouting on top of their head. These flowers indicate their tree of origin. Many of the flower bearing trees on Dwam possess the ability to sprout wilderspree.

They like to wear clothing but don’t wear shoes as they like to feel the ground beneath their feet.

Wilderspree have three genders: male, female, and genderless.

They can interbreed with virispree but the resulting offspring are most often virispree rather than wilderspree.

They require sunlight as a means of sustenance, but not as much as a virispree does. They get most of their nutrients by burying their feet in the ground for a few hours out of the day. They lack teeth but seem to derive great enjoyment out of chewing on leaves. Small berries comprise the rest of their dietary needs. Wilderspree require water, but it's far more beneficial to water the flower on their heads than to consume it. They love to get wet.

Speerites

Speerites are born from Dreamstones, which are crystalized dreams. Because all dreams are different, no two speerites look alike. They are all completely different from each other although they share some features in common. They inhabit the mountains and hilly areas of Dwam as the elevation puts them closer to the moonlight they need.

Speerites are strange, genderless creatures that have bony masks that cover their faces. These masks take a variety of shapes and can have many different kinds of markings and growths. These masks only cover the front part of their heads. Their eyes are solidly coloured. They are all bipedal. Their bodies often have some manner of texture to them. Not all of them have visible digits, but most of them do.

They don’t wear clothing as it makes them uncomfortable, but they do love to accessorize. They often wear things like belts, cloaks, and pieces of jewellery.

Speerites have the ability to manipulate the dreams of others, particularly humans. They feed off the energy they gain from cleansing mortal dreams. It’s their job to keep dreams from running wild and prevent bad dreams from hurting mortals. This energy is crucial to their survival. Their alternate food source is the light from Dwam’s solitary moon. For the three nights of the cycle when it goes dark they require something else to sustain them. It’s during that time when the dream energy becomes particularly important and speerites are even more vigilant about dream cleansing.

Dwam

Dwam is a world created by dreams. It was willed into existence by Amur and Rima--the twin gods of dreams and nightmares respectively. It was created as a place where the dreams of mortals to go once they came into existence, as such dreams left to run wild became dangerous.

When dreams reach Dwam they crystalize. Most of these crystals--known as dreamstones--eventually crack open and small creatures known as speerites emerge.

All the dream energy converging on Dwam eventually began to have an effect on the larger ecosystem. Smaller dreamstones that got buried in the ground sprouted, creating the first virispree. These first virispree sprouted up around speerite habitations. Being curious by nature, the speerites cultivated the odd plants until mature virispree came out of the soil. That was all well and good until they discovered that the virispree were intelligent. This came as something of a surprise to the speerites who’d essentially had Dwam all to themselves up to that point, save for the animals that lived there as well.

So the speerites continued to nurture the virispree sprouts until the first ones were old enough to take over this duty. Shortly after that the two species began to drift apart as they were quite different in needs and nature. Despite this they continue to acknowledge the bond they share.

Wilderspree share a similar origin, though the dreamstone that ignited their creation lodged itself in the roots of a wild fruit tree. The tree gradually broke down the essence of the stone, but the energy had to go somewhere. It eventually took the form of a larger than average flower bud. Once the wilderspree inside reached a functional size the bud opened and the wilderspree fell to the forest floor. This process mutated the tree and all of the seeds it produced over its lifetime, spreading other trees with the ability to birth wilderspree. They revere speerites as their progenitors but would prefer not to have much to do with the virispree, seeing them as being too different.
