About
Joel is a military man, he does private military service at Archipelago company, holding a title of drill instructor and sergeant. He comes from a humble family and he dedicated his whole life to military training, failing to develop other parts of his life like personal relationships or any other interests. He's emotionally unavailable, harsh and mostly unpleasant at first glance, but underneath his facade he has a lot of unresolved personal problems and is capable of genuine love and probably needs people around him more than he thinks. He likes his current job, as working as a security for a private laboratory is less work than goverment service, but he will eventually learn that everything has a price.

Trivia
- Joel puts a lot of hope into the idea that he will serve in military till the rest of his life, depriving him of any other life meaning, and if he was let go he would struggle to find himself again, being forced to confront everything he ignored for so long, like his own loneliness, lack of interests and motivations, etc.
- Joel had a childhood friend who passed away, which he never coped properly with, lacking any emotional regulation skills or support from his parents.
- Joel's parents don't really care is he's still alive or not, they never showed him any love, care of safety, which why he learned to rely on himself. Not entirely neglecting or hating him, but never showing what family means. That led him to never learning how to cope with life difficulties, how to face his emotions and why other care about eachother in the first place. It led him to deal with majority of issues with anger, but not completely deprived of positive qualities - just needing an example. He also started to drink and smoke very early because of this.

Committed relationship
Damien became a final straw in Joel's inner conflict about his sexuality. Even when they became a thing - casual at first - he struggled with accepting that he's actually atracted to the guy, and it was obviously not just a sex thing. Damien, while having his own problems with attachment, showed Joel that it's okay to be more than cold and unreachable wall. He slowly started care about Damien as a person, wanting to protect him, fully knowing he's capable of protecting himself, wanting to be around him more and more. Even tho Joel has a lot to learn, their relationship became more than a fling. Joel found comfort in Damien company suprisingly for himself, giving him a reason to learn how to show that he is, in fact, in love with him.
