Duststorm was born as Brave to the Vibrant Mesas pride, a pride that is within the confides of Edge's Kingdom. They were once the pride's Knight, but were driven out when they refused to execute Silverstorm, a Traveller who was caught trespassing on the pride's territory.

The duo barely managed to escape with their lives. Brave then became Duststorm to match their new friend's name and, eventually, the two fell in love and became mates. The two now travel together, in a band that consists of their adopted son, Sandstorm, and two former pride lions, Splittingstorm and Heatstorm. Duststorm is the de facto leader of the bunch, serving as their primary protector due to their experience as a Knight ("once a Knight, always a Knight") and keeping spirts up.
