Biography

Adopted by the monks of the gobboc monastery of The Exalted Nest at a very young age, Pip grew up training in martial arts and learning the wisdom of the birds. Being in such a remote location, hidden away in the mountains, for most of their life and more interested in tales of large birds than their academic studies, they are also quite a sheltered individual and are generally ignorant of the ways of the world outside of their home.

Pip has always been something of a daydreamer and lacking in ambition, much to the chagrin of most of his instructors, who assumed he wouldn't amount to much. His master, Culvia Li, however, seems to see something in him that the rest do not, and has always been exceedingly patient with him. Under Li's tutelage, and with the help of some of his peers, Pip has excelled at his martial training and meditations, and has become a fine young monk, despite his academic failures.

Now an adult, and following the traditions of the monks of The Exalted Nest, Pip has been sent out on a pilgrimage: to find a feather of some significance, and to bring it back and adorn the great Roc's nest (which the monastery was founded around) with it. Typically, novice monks take the first leap of this journey themselves, but given Pip's worldly ignorance and reluctance to leave, Li literally threw him from the mountain peak to kickstart his journey (he was alright, gobbocs are light and the monks are trained to land gracefully, even at great height).

Pip now finds themselves in the world they used to only see from the safety of the mountain peaks. Everything around them is much larger than they expected, and the wilds are more dangerous than they could have imagined. They've been overwhelmed by this and have found the journey so far to be quite harrowing, but a desire to make master Li proud keeps them going for now.
