Basics
Vanya, despite his looks and the way he acts, is very much a man who is caring about his family and the discriminations they are constantly battling. He’ll give life and limb to put himself in danger in lieu of his family, but it’s these traits alone that stick out like a sore thumb in comparison to the rest of him.
It’s hard to believe Vanya came from a heavily family-oriented setting what with how perverse he and his interests seem to be. He enjoys things that border on the obscene, and is a shameless sadomasochist. Maybe his interests are the reason why he’s so damn candid all the time, though. He’s never been one to sugarcoat things if it wouldn’t vastly work in his favor, and so he always tells the truth and nothing but, even if it means telling a pretty girl the shade of lipstick she’s wearing doesn't suit her at all (and getting a slap to the face as thanks).
He’s open-minded about pretty much everything- no surprise given his interests- and responds to most ideas with enthusiasm no matter how awful they might sound. He’s especially confident in getting himself in and out of a bad situation, and years of experience in getting trouble has made him pretty resourceful and perceptive of others; something that’s saved his tail on more than one occasion now.

Trivia
- Vanya is skilled with semiautomatic firearms, and you’ll often see him using them when he has to fight. That being said, Vanya is lightweight and agile; don’t expect him to stay and fight when he has a clear exit.
- He has two guns that he uses. The first is an FN Minimi Mk3, an lmg and his absolute pride and joy. He's lovingly named it Aimee. The second is an SIG SP2022, a semiautomatic pistol Vanya refers to as Amelie. All guns, no matter the owner, are pretty girls in his eyes.
- Vanya is fluent in both Spanish and Russian. His English is good enough on a conversational level, but anything beyond that is pretty bad. While his Russian accent is very noticeable, it gets incredibly thick when he’s angry.
- He really likes turtlenecks, and will usually try to find a way to incorporate one into his outfit. It’s partially why he hates warmer weather lmao.
- Vanya is a damn fine cook, if he does say so himself. He learned it all from his mama, and he’ll gladly cook for any of his family if they’re starving.
- Most, if not all, of his current interests developed well after moving to New York City and becoming independent of his parents. Moving allowed him to find his interests, hobbies, likes, and dislikes. If asked, Vanya doesn’t even consider himself a person before moving to America and ‘finding’ himself.
- Vanya’s love of firearms came about at an early age, back when he and his parents were still living in Russia. Bear-hunting was a popular tourist attraction in his small village, and his father often took him to do just that. Although he was too young to wield a gun for a while, he was absolutely enchanted with watching his father fire them.
- On that note, he gets all lovey dovey for most guns. If someone has an unnamed gun he’ll always give it a name no matter of the owner’s protests, and if someone does have a name for their firearm he’ll be pleased as punch. He tends to talk to them as if they’re actual people. Whether he’s genuine with these interactions, or if he does it to annoy others, is a complete mystery.
- He has two tattoos. On his right bicep is a stylized depiction of a grinning wolf holding a shepherd’s crook, and the second tattoo is where most can’t even see it: on the defunct right eye he has covered by an eyepatch. The eye is tattooed black as pitch; an aesthetic choice.
- His codename within the gang is 'Pastor', spanish for Shepherd.
- anya’s right eye is completely blind, and has been since he was about 20 after his run-in with the police. If he hadn’t hated the police before, he definitely hated them after the hospital had stabilized him.
- He enjoys the occasional cigar, and prefers cinnamon- and sweet cream-flavored cigars.
About
Vanya was born in Russia to one Julio and Natasha Espinoza. His father was born and raised deep in the heart of Mexico, and had only moved to the colder country two years prior to his birth to escape the harsh discrimination against wolfkind that had occurred often in Mexico. It was a little easier for Julio in the quiet Russian countryside; it became even better when he finally met the woman of his dreams and had a baby with her. Vanya was raised a sheltered child who wasn’t allowed to go out much, save for the few times his mother and father allowed him to accompany them on errand runs. It was fine by him- his father had told him stories of what it was like growing up in Mexico, and how beast-aspected humans got treated there. Vanya was scared of the outside world and how they’d treat him for being born the way he was, and concluded the world was an unfair place.
"”Could it be changed?”"
It was a loaded question he found himself asking both his parents a lot, and the question was always met with forlorn looks and sad smiles from the both of them. They told him it was uncertain- that it took a lot of people to change such deeply ingrained hatred, but it was possible. Vanya swore he’d be one of the people to make it happen.
The Move
He was sixteen when they packed their bags and moved to New York City. Julio’s mother was a frequent traveler, and had settled down in the bustling metropolis months before she was overcome by a serious illness. Not knowing how much longer his mother had to live, it was understandable that Julio wanted to stay by her side for as long as he could.
Vanya, who had never gone out on his own before, decided it was time for a little independence (and to figure out a way to get this whole ‘change the world’ plan in motion). But NYC was in no way at all like the little Russian village he hailed from, and Vanya found the sudden shift in strangers’ attitudes shocking. Going into shops and neighborhoods that weren’t inhabited by wereanimals earned him some nasty glares, and more than once he found strangers trailing after him, shouting lecherous things and slurs that hurt. It didn’t take long for Vanya to reach his limit. He wanted to go back home- to his real home, far away from the city, away from prying eyes....
But leaving his parents behind to suffer alone wasn't an option, so Vanya stayed. Even though it meant he'd have to take a few punches from strangers and, even worse, from the very law enforcement that had sworn to protect him and other citizens.

It was years later, a changed man nearly devoid of hope at the age of 24, when Vanya finally heard about the elusive Carnivores- a gang of beast-aspected humans hailing from predatory animals that were trying to make waves of change not only in the city, but all over the country. He had been close to giving up all hope after so many years of struggling when they extended a hand out to him, and he took it without hesitation.
He had almost given up on his people once. He wouldn’t do it again.
