Sam was born to wealthy lycanthrope parents and was homeschooled for most of his childhood. Once introduced to the local lycanthrope community, he found difficulties befriending other members of his pack. His happy-go-lucky nature combined with his poor understanding of socializing resulted in his being bullied by the other werewolves in the community. Attending the local college with several of his packmates, he found himself a victim of hazing as he was led into the sewer as a prank and left to find his way out alone. Lost in the tunnels and noseblind by the strong smell of the sewers, he eventually stumbled into the primordial ooze that would change him.
While the boy was dying, slowly suffocating inside the slime's sticky trap, his captor felt a pang of pity. In a series of strange events, the slime decided to keep the boy "alive" in a way. Absorbing Sam's more basic aspects and taking them onto itself, the ooze made a mistake. Not knowing that Sam was a lycanthrope, the slime took on those features and became an even more dangerous beast than before.
The slime, now Smudge, had the combined hungers of both the wolf and a slime. With such a voracious hunger and the wolf's highly reactive and violent ways, the creature born from their combination was more unstable and dangerous than the counterparts that made it up.
A painter. Smudge enjoys painting pretty pastels and swirling neon colors. He loves all things cutesy, but his paintings tend to have a surreal touch to them. Often times when asked about them Smudge describes them as things he saw in a dream. Perhaps the paintings contain hints to the memories of the boy he once was.
Smudge is naïve and overly emotional. When he’s happy the world is full of glitter and rainbows, but when he’s sad he’s a sobbing mess on the floor. He’s even gone as far as throwing a tantrum and gnawing on someone’s arm when he was even the slightest bit hungry. Due to his immature and reactive nature he is prone to shifting at inappropriate times
His human form is unstable and heavily affected by both his emotions and his hunger levels. He may sometimes store items within his own slime which can be seen floating when he wolf's out, however if left for long the items may dissolve. In an effort to maintain his form he is almost always seen snacking.
Backstory provided by the artist:
Ten years ago, a college student went missing. Despite everyone's best efforts, the trail went cold, and the case was closed with much confusion. But no one had thought to look in the very depths of the sewers. There, in the abandoned dark, a primordial slime laid dormant. A large genetic mass full of wonder and glitter from the old world. Completely contrasting the sewer grime surrounding it with its dull, pulsing glow. Like a magical heart. Year after year, it hibernated there, absorbing toxic waste and whatever moonlight managed to filter through.
Its most recent absorption? A human. They'd slipped right into the slime's waiting bosom and narrowly avoided hitting their head on the wet stone tunnels. Sympathy overcame the primordial entity. It could sense the human's good heart and felt mournful at the idea of its toxins digesting them until there's nothing but bone. Unfortunately it lacked the power to spit things out of itself, much less move. If it could move, it would've left long ago!
Cogs began spinning as it spun a thought around. If it couldn't get rid of the human, then how about sharing some of that old magic it's been sitting on for milennia? The toxic mass expanded and its glow intensified, shaking its every fiber awake around the human which floated in its center like a pearl.
What happened after was a transformation most wondrous, and many baffled news outlets scrambling for their cameras as the once missing student emerged as if from thin air, and not a day older than when they vanished.
Additional Flavor:
- Transformation between werewolf and human form can get a bit messy, leaving big splotches of goo here and there as they "shed" their wolf form.
- The air around them is toxic, but not lethally so! Prolonged exposure will make your eyes burn though, so it's best not to stay too long.
- Will eat anything. Their stomach is a pit.
- Very flexible.
- Didn't use to have bright eyes or unnatural hair. It came with the transformation.
- Seems silly and unassuming, but is very intelligent.
- Has not told a single person the whereabouts of the primordial slime.
- Sometimes will shed glitter. It can be a hassle to clean up.
