I still need to edit this.

Ra'am grew up in a modest home in the far fields of his country. Son to a minor noble family, his mother, a knight, had been entrusted with managing and guarding the surrounding village and lands. Quite air-headed, he would spend most of his early years admiring nature and wandering the fields and eventually started to be trained by his mother in the arts of the sword and of lightning magic. While found the sword to be more tedious, he was fascinated with lightning magic and took to it gladly.

Through his childhood, he had fell for and made friends with a boy his age from a noble family. With every summer Baylam visited the two started a slowly growing love affair. When the other boy went to the royal academy and after a lot of arguments with his parents who preferred to see him not enrol and become a soldier but stay with them he managed to follow in his lover's footsteps.

The academy life was tough, while they saw each other more often than a month a year now, they had to keep their relationship secret. An affair between a lowly mage from the countryside and a high heir to a great family would be scandalous.
Slowly, however, Ra'am found himself taking the spotlight. Once his talent for the rare lightning magic became apparent on top of his swordplay, the professors jumped him forward in classes and began to tutor him privately, sending him to far swordmasters and great sages to hone himself further. While he enjoyed the travels, seeing so much more of earthly beauty the world had to offer, his heart still ached to be with his beloved. Each time he returned to the academy the two could not be separated. With Ra'am's new-found status as a potential sword saint, an idea from legends of a mage who wielded both the elements and the sword to such great proficiency, he could publicly court his beloved. Though they did face scrutiny, for his other half was heir to a noble family and was expected to keep the bloodline going, as long as they held each other the two couldn't care less.

It was during another of Ra'am's study trips that disaster struck. A magical explosion had occurred on the border with a neighbouring kingdom; a border skirmish turned bloody when a spell went wrong and razed the whole area. Each kingdom started blaming the other for the ruined fields. Using the loss of potential food for the winter as an excuse to invade the other and steal theirs. While Ra'am was called to the front line to fight the enemy in the name of his country, his lover was sent back to his family. Ra'am swore to return to him.

The war started small, but each side kept putting more resources in, determined not to lose. On the battlefield Ra'am commanded storms, dancing the razed and charred fields with a sword in hand between lightning strikes. They called him the champion of the storms, the commander of thunder, the dancing lightning. He was untouchable. He was glorious. The only thing he wanted, was to go home.
Eventually, he did. All wars end and this one did as well. It was a glorious return as they paraded through the capital. But even as he was knighted by the king himself he only longed for one thing, yet he couldn't find Baylam nor his family throughout all the festivities. After a vacation with his family, he returned to the academy only to find a letter inviting him to a lovely oceanside clif resort where he would attend.. Baylam's wedding.

Ra'am left that very day and arrived weeks before the wedding. He spent his days trying to let go of his anger and anxiety. However, when Baylam arrived, none of it mattered. He saw him and his wife from the top of the cliff, hugging and kissing. It filled him with fury and started conjuring a storm above him. By the time baylam approached the cliff by himself, having left his new lover and entourage further away, strong winds were blowing and distant roaring thunder could be heard.
His former lover tried to explain his situation. That his family had to marry him off to another kingdom for the soldiers for the war, that he kept waiting for him to come back but never knew if he perished in the war and that the stories of the Champion of Storms were just stories, he tried to tell Ra'am that he still loved him but that he had to accept what happened. He hoped Ra'am would listen to his pleas to move on, find a new love and settle down, maybe dedicate his life to protecting their now-massive kingdom.
But it fell on deaf ears. With electricity singing across his body like an electric coil he approached Baylam and left a scorch mark in the shape of a hand on his chest. A burned scar that would never heal. And with the words "I loved you." uttered in voice holding back tears, he disappeared into lightning.

He never looked back as he travelled in the storm. Living as lightning dancing on the water in flashes. His melancholic roar heard all around as he cried rain into the ocean. Eventually, however, he encountered something unique. An undiscovered island, filled with strange buildings and an impossibly tall mountain that seemed to stretch into the sky itself. He took all the storms energy into himself and descended into the island. He ran across from the beach through and through the forest, village and eventually city. Zipping along the ground, leaving a charred trail and smell of ozone as he marvelled at the new kind of nature and people he had found, whilst still also mourning what he had so recently lost. Through the city's busy streets he passed by confused faces, barely having time to react to the lightning-fast form of the lightning man before them as he kept running. When he reached the mountain he kept running up its path under and through massive and colourful stone and wood shapes in the form of strange runes that scaled up the mountain.
When he reached the end, the very peak high with the clouds, he didn't stop. Taking all of his momentum with him he jumped past the sky and into the stars above.
There he saw the universe. First of his world to leave the atmosphere. but among the stars, he saw foreign things. Great metal structures flying on trails of blue flame. And suddenly he grew very scared. He did not know what he had seen, but with every inch of his soul, he knew it meant danger.
He then descended back upon the mountain in a brilliant beam of lightning. With the last vestiges of brilliance, he carved himself a perfect seat of stone from the peak and plunged his sword down in front of him.
They say that all around the island and even some back at the mainland could hear the words of the thunder. "I am Ra'am Stormborn; Lord of storms, Sovereign of Thunder and Blade, Dancing Lightning. I have seen a terrible future. I will protect you".
With that, the storm slowly dispersed, but the light upon the mountain remained. A beacon in the shape of a man encased within an aura of lightning, sitting on a cliff with both hands forward on a stone stabbed through the earth.

That is the story of the ascension to godhood of the Lord of Storms.
