parents were traditional firbolg types, moved to the city when she was young to try and give her a better life, worked as fishers. they didn't name her because they didn't see a reason to. eventually got the name yew from just being called "you."
parents got killed, house burned down with them inside. she was still a kid so she lived on the streets for a while until a group of elf criminals took her in. they used her as an enforcer, having her either intimidate people into doing what they want or beat up people who don't agree. she'd also rough people up for money on the side, although she always took care not to actually kill anyone.firbolg | barbarian | 5

she never went to school but she sure can punch
while fleeing the scene of a crime, her leg was blown off by a spell and the elves she was with left her for dead. their pursuers quickly caught up to them, stabbing her in the heart and leaving her body in the street.
her corpse was found by a wizard doctor, who decided he didn't want a free dead body to go to waste and decided to do a little experimenting on it, replacing her heart with a magical device and bringing her back to life.
in order to pay him back the wizard had her sign a contract (which he feels bad about after discovering that she can barely read) agreeing to work for him to cover the cost of both the device and her new leg. he mostly just has her deliver and retrieve items, and other jobs that involve being large, although he's making her learn how to read and do basic magic on the side so she can be a little more useful. she is not allowed to help with surgery under any circumstances (the fur)
she's still recovering from her experience, dealing with both the fact that she has limits now and doesn't know if and when she'll get back to normal and that the people she had lived with for 50ish years never really cared for her
