  • Smith; Using raw materials, she is able to create simple weapons and armor. (Novice level)
  • Herbalist; Cerise has a vast knowledge of plants and their uses. Her knowledge is, however, limited to what plants can be found in Apodis, as well as those she's read about in libraries ect. Using her plant-based expertise, Cerise is able to cure common illnesses, making her a somewhat reliable doctor. (Intermediate level)
  • Scavenger; After spending most of her life in the scrap-metal business, Cerise is now an expert at scavenging, anywhere from newly broken vehicles, to decade old piles of trash. Her years of collecting scrap has also given her insight in the basics of mechanics as well as carpentry. Her skills in these professions are, however, close to un-noteworthy. (Mastered)

Physical Appearance

Height: 5'11'' (180 cm)

Weight: 174 lb (79 kg)

Hair Style: Long with bangs (ca. to where her shoulder blades end). Cerise rarely does anything to style her hair, making it look wild and shaggy.

Hair Color: Dark pink.

Eye Color: Cold, light blue.

Scars: No major scars visible.

Clothing and Accessories: Cerise wears her hair in one of two ways. Either she simply lets it hang loose, making her long bangs cover her eyes, or she keeps the bangs away from her face with a dark blue bandana. Her everyday outfit consists of a tight purple tank top with three bright pink circles, a pair of brown shorts or dark denim pants (depending on the weather) and a zip-up hoodie which she either wears or has tied around her waist (again, depending on the weather).

Description: Although generally skinny (in a healthy way), Cerise has fairly thick thighs and broad hips. With her fairly pouty plump lips and serious eyes, Cerise suffers from resting bitchface syndrome. As a remnant from her time with the Marines, Cerise has a good, straight, military posture.

Personality and Traits

Main Traits: Pessimistic, confident, spontaneous, knowledge-seeking, loudmouth, temperamental/unpredictable, free-spirited, charming, disobedient, resolute.

Likes: Being independent, being in the city, meat, drinking, being patted on the top of her head, itchy sweaters (and beards).

Dislikes: Humming, when people complain about 'bad' weather, smoke, gum, uncomfortable clothing.

Hometown: Apodis Port

Personality:

  • Due to her recklessness and indifference towards her surroundings, Cerise can come off as brash and uncaring. However, this is only true for people she isn't acquainted with.

  • Cerise is fiercely independent and much more than stability and security, she craves creativity and freedom. Cerise loathes being micromanaged and restrained by heavy-handed rules – she enjoys being seen as an independent master of her own fate.

  • Unfortunately Cerise has a rather negative outlook on life, most likely due to her unfortunate past. This, paired with her unwavering confidence, makes for some odd situations.

  • She is very emotional and sensitive, whether this is a byproduct of her devil fruit or not is unknown, but there is a clear connection between Cerise's emotions and her temperamental powers. While emotional expression is healthy and natural, in Cerise's case even viewing it as a core part of her identity, it can come out strongly enough to cause problems. Particularly when under stress, criticism or conflict, Cerise can experience emotional bursts that are counter-productive at best.

  • She spends a lot of time exploring social relationships, feelings, and ideas before finding something that really rings true to her heart. But when she finally does, Cerise's cold attitude melts away to show her true, warmer self.

  • When it comes to new ideas, Cerise isn’t interested in brooding – she wants to go out and experience things and doesn’t hesitate to step out of her comfort zones to do so.

  • Overthinking things is a very bad habit - and Cerise suffers from it. Badly. She doesn’t take things at face value – usually looking for underlying motives in even the simplest things. It’s not uncommon for her to lose a bit of sleep asking herself why someone did what they did, what it might mean, and what to do about it.

  • In combat Cerise isn't afraid to bend the rules to her advantage, using cheap tactics to steal the win. She relies heavily on quickly overpowering her opponents as Cerise rather quickly runs out of stamina.

History:

Cerise was born in the suburban slums of Apodis Port. Both of her parents were relatively old when they became parents, but that didn't mean they loved her any less. Cerise's mother supported her husband the best she could while he was out scavenging by sitting a dozen of slum kids whose parents didn't have the time to take care of them during the day. For many years they had tried to get a child of their own but without any luck. During all those years the couple had set money aside, saving up for when they'd finally be blessed with a child. By the time Cerise came into the world, her parents were among some of the richest people living in the slums because of this. The fortune did unfortunately not last long.

As Cerise grew up, her parents used a good deal of their savings educating her by hiring someone to teach her how to read, write and calculate. The days Cerise wasn't receiving tutoring were mostly spent with her mother at home until she turned 7 when she was finally allowed to go with her father out scavenging through the piles of trash Apodis produced. Of course only being a child, Cerise could not actually help her father with his work much but spend most of the time looking around for hidden treasures, pretending to be an explorer in her own fantasy world.

A few years passed and Cerise had become a lot more confident in her scavenging abilities as well as her maneuverability around the trash hills. This meant the young girl spent more and more time on her own far into the trash-filled wasteland. It was here she found the most peculiar thing; A plant seemed to have managed to grow at the very top of one of the trash-hills. Naturally, the girl curiously went closer to examine it. Cerise's assumptions had been correct, there was, in fact, a rather large plant on the hill. Even further adding to her surprise was the strange fruit attached to it. The fruit was larger than most she'd previously seen and it had a strange swirly pattern on it. Letting her curiosity take control once more, Cerise reached out and plucked the fruit. She had been stricken with a sudden hunger - for both food and adventure - and quickly consumed the fruit.

At first, the fruit had no effect, but by the time Cerise had made it back to her father, her temperature had skyrocketed. Not knowing what was wrong with his daughter, Cerise's father, of course, assumed the worst and began fearing for her life. While carrying her exhausted, burning body back to their home in the slum, he did all he could to calm her down as Cerise faded back and forth between consciousness. Arriving at their house, her mother immediately used what medical knowledge she had to stabilize their daughter's temperature while Cerise's father rushed out to find a doctor.

By the time her father returned with medical help Cerise's fever had passed. Instead, the girl was now sitting on a chair, shivering and wrapped in as many blankets as her mother had been able to find and borrow from the neighbors. The doctor was shocked, to say the least. Never had he heard of anything like what he was witnessing. How could this be?

His confusion only worsened as Cerise's temperature switched yet again; in an instant, her entire body became burning hot and with a frustrated scream she untangled herself from the layers of blankets. The doctor, as well as her parents, were baffled and terrified at the same time.

Meanwhile, a few of the neighbors, as well as the local police, had heard Cerise's scream and hurried to find out what caused the commotion. Although the doctor couldn't explain the strange the situation, the policemen had a pretty good idea of what was going on. The two men tried to convince Cerise's parents to let them take her with them to the capital's main hospital where she'd be examined and treated. Seeing this as their only way of saving their daughter, her parents of course agreed and Cerise was taken away.

The place Cerise was taken to was, however, not a hospital, but rather a research lab which was overseen by the World Government in order to gain a better understanding of Devil Fruits and their effects on humans. By the time she arrived there, Cerise had passed out from the many temperature changes her body had gone through on the way there. The next thing she could recall was wanting up in what appeared to be a prison cell. How much time had passed since she last was conscious? Where was she? And how did she end up here? The girl had no way of knowing.

The room was dark without any windows. The only sources of light were from the ceiling lamp and from the hallway light shining through a large grid door. Cerise spent the next few years of her life in the cell, slowly but surely gaining more knowledge about the place as well as about her own newfound powers. With every day that passed and every test the scientists put her through, Cerise gained better and better control of her powers. After a month had passed, she was no longer plagued by involuntary temperature changes. Months turned to years and although Cerise showed promise in gaining control of her powers, this did not mean she would get her freedom back. Every day was a struggle to maintain sanity, after all, Cerise was barely old enough to be considered a preteen at this point. She missed her parents and her freedom.

At the age of 14 when Cerise was almost at her breaking point, having given up on ever escaping, the facility unexpectedly received a visit from a marine admiral. On that day all inmates were given two options; stay in the research facility or join the marine ranks. Naturally Cerise picked the choice most likely to result in freedom: The Marines.

While imprisoned at the research facility Cerise had gained a much better control of her devil fruit power, as well as explored her own power's limit. Although having the powers to fight, she still lacked basic combat skills. Joining the Marine ranks changed this. As she still technically was considered a threat, Cerise, along with all the other devil fruit users from the facility, were instructed not to use their supernatural powers while in training. Furthermore, the ex-inmates were prohibited from merely mentioning the facility or what had happened there. Breaking these rules would naturally result in execution.

The first months were the most difficult for the newcomers. They had been spent the last many years of their lives in isolation, heck, some had even been trapped there for more than a decade. Even though all the ex-inmates suffered from the same issues, they never sought comfort in one another. It didn't take long before they started to break down. One by one most of the ex-inmates either revolted only to be executed, committed suicide, or attempted to flee. Cerise, of course, was far from mentally stable at this point. She had been ripped from her parents at a young age and was now trying to remember how the real world worked all while at the same time going through puberty. Although inspired by her fellow ex-inmates dreams of freedom, Cerise was way too terrified to do anything about it.

However, this all would change soon enough.

As time passed, and Cerise grew accustomed to the Marine life, she also gained a great deal more confidence. Not only confidence in herself, but also in her fighting abilities. After spending a year as Chore Boy, (or rather, Chore Girl), she was finally allowed to advance in the ranks, becoming a Seaman Recruit. Not only did this advancement in the ranks come with better living conditions and more advanced combat training, Cerise was also finally allowed to utilize her devil fruit powers openly.

For a while, the now 15-year-old girl was content with her situation, one might even argue she was happy. Sure she missed her parents, but it had been so long since she last had seen them that in a way she had given up on ever reuniting with them. Cerise's change of mindset from wanting to escape, to willingly using her power to aid the Marines, caused her to rapidly rise through the ranks. Over the course of a few years, she managed to become a First Class Seaman.

Her alignment with the Marine faction abruptly came to a halt when the perfect opportunity arose for her to escape: During a routine transportation of a captured pirate, Cerise found herself compelled to assist the pirate in his escape. After hearing tales of his piracy adventure her own drive for freedom was reignited and realized she potentially, with his help, could reclaim her life as a free woman. Despite having the odds against them, Cerise and the pirate overtook the marine ship, ensuring their escape by defeating the crew on board in the process.
Their swift alliance ended the very same day, and the two parted ways, likely never to meet again.

Cerise anticipated receiving the blame for the incident and therefore did what she could to alter her appearance so she wouldn't be recognized as she tried to blend in with the general public upon her return to the slum of Apodis Port. So far she has avoided raising suspicion, but one can only get so far, living their life on a lie. It would seem turning to piracy is inevitable for her.
